96.3 Rock Radio is a classic rock independent local radio station serving the Renfrewshire and Central Scotland area. It replaced Q96, which was acquired by GMG Radio from The Wireless Group and UTV Radio.
The station broadcasts classic rock tracks, which will appeal to a wide market but with a slight bias to 35 to 64 year old males. It plays rock music from all eras, from classic 1960s songs by The Beatles to new singles by current bands like Biffy Clyro.
Since leaving the county of Renfrewshire Regulator OFCOM required assurances that the station would continue to broadcast local news and content for the area from its new studios built just off the M8 at Baillieston some 15Km distant. Rock Radio and sister station Real Radio, both broadcast from this location.
Since 8th January 2007, 96.3 Rock Radio broadcast to an enlarged Total Survey Area (TSA) of over 800,000 adults and will be supported by a significant marketing campaign. The campaign focuses on classic rock tracks with a Scottish slant such as "Broon Sugar", "Sweet Wean O'Mine" and "Should I Stay or Should I No".
A joke promotional photo of 96.3 has circulated on the internet. It shows an empty rack outside a building, with a 96.3 banner over it saying, "Free Air Guitar - Please Take One".
