The 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana on April 21, for a three month enlistment.

The regiment mustered out of service on August 6, 1861.

The regiment lost 4 enlisted men killed in action or died of wounds and 3 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 7 fatalities.^[1]
