Dear Netsnipe,
Why am I blocked?
I try to correct a mistake on a page, I get a "You are currently unable to edit pages on Wikipedia." message with this text as the "reason" for the block:
To edit, please log in.
Editing by anonymous users from your shared IP address or address range may be currently disabled. Registered users, however, are still able to edit. If you are currently blocked from creating an account, you may email us using an email address issued to you by your ISP, school or organization so that we may verify that you are a legitimate user on this network. In your email, please tell us your preferred username and an account will be created for you. Please check on this list that the username you choose has not already been taken. We apologize for any inconvenience. Comments: Please contact <unblock-en-l@lists.wikimedia.org> to request an account using your Tesco email address so that we can verify that you are legitimate user on this network. |
Could someone explain this, as it does not conform to this because it it not clear as to the reason of the block. I am extremely confused about this, mainly because I have not edited any pages, let alone vandalized them, proved by this edit search.
I believe I am a "legitimate user", how could I be believed to be an "illegitimate user"?
Thank you (I suppose).

- Hang on, this is even worse, I have just realised, the expiration date on the block is changing! It was set to time out today, but now it says it will expire on 29th May! In addition (and this is the worrying one), the IP address which is meant to be blocked (86.29.0.0/16), it is actually totally different from my address (86.29.75.105). I believe that "86.29.0.0/16" is meant to mean the IPs in the range of 86.29.0.0 to 86.29.0.16 (if I am incorrect, please correct me straight away, I would like this to be sorted out as soon as possible), with which I am not encapsulated in.
- I fear I have become caught up in a block intended for someone else, but I cycled through all the talk pages for the IPs (86.29.0.0 - 86.29.0.16), but no warning or explanation there, I mean, Netsnipe, you could at least tell me why I am blocked! That reminds me, how do you know I am on Tesco's network?
- To tell you (yes, you) the truth, I do not actually know if I am doing the right thing here, asking for unblocking on this here talk page, but I cannot edit other talk pages (because of the block) to complain there, and I don't have a working (current) Tesco email address! I am wondering if I should email some admin from my Gmail address, but they wouldn't believe that it was really me, :( ...

- Oh dear, I have just realised I have made a terrible mistake, by not reading through (and thoroughly) the text that Wikipedia provides when it shows a "You are blocked" message. I should have read it through more slowly and carefully, because if I had I would have realised I am now a victim of collateral damage. That page also suggests I copy and paste some text, which I believe to be an anonblock unblocking appeal, but I am not quite sure, I will put it at the bottom of this talk page as the blocked page suggests.

- Thank you Netsnipe, when you read this and unblock me, this was just a little bit distressing because not even my IP had done anything worthy of a block

- PS: I realise now that you used one of the RIRs tools, to find out I was using Tesco as my ISP!

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
