[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 16:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Please do not post inappropriate warnings. If you look at the discussions pages, such as for Richard Jenkin you will see there has been a constructive discussion. In the future please assume good faith.

[edit] Please sign your contributions

As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and WikiProject pages. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then be automatically added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you. DuncanHill (talk) 21:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello DuncanHill. Thank you for being polite. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.171.112 (talk)

[edit] Sign your posts

Please start signing your posts. Please also in future read up on Wikipedia policies and guidelines regarding UK nationalities before making further changes to articles. Thank you. DuncanHill (talk) 21:32, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Where are these policies and guidelines?
I have changed articles to improve them. Nothing I have added has been incorrect, yet saying someone is Cornish but refusing to allow the inclusion of British is incorrect.
There has been extensive discussion of this at Talk:Richard Trevithick, somewhat disrupted by an anon IP editor not signing their posts and moving comments around. DuncanHill (talk) 21:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I'll look in.

[edit] Some advice

Thank you for your message. One way to stop people assuming that you are the same editor as the one who has been making very similar edits and making very similar arguments in support of them would be for you to get an account. It is free, simple to do, and gives you more privacy than editing from an IP address. Please also start signing your posts on talk pages - you do this by typing ~~~~ at the end of your post. Thank you. DuncanHill (talk) 21:38, 22 March 2008 (UTC)}

At the moment I'm happy not to register, which I believe is not compulsory. I also wonder if I shall bother with Wikipedia. I came here as I have heard about its unreliability, and this looks to be true. My experience after just a few changes (again these were all factual) is of aggression from other writers. It seems a very bizarre little world in which facts are ignored. What sort of encyclopedia is it if a British national is denied his / her nationality? I have stated all along that I would support mention of British AND Cornwall. What is wrong with that? It is correct. For example what passport do these people (those still alive) carry? — 86.153.171.112 (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
If you believe that Cornish should be changed to British on articles where the original author has used Cornish, then you should seek consensus on the article talk page. There is a link to the relevant guideline at the Richard Trevithick talk page that I linked for you above. Please start signing your posts - it is disruptive of you to continue refusing to do so. DuncanHill (talk) 21:49, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
These guidelines relate to English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh. There is nothing about the origins from individual counties. "disruptive of you to continue refusing to do so" Is this part of Wikipedia policy?)

[edit] Compromise?

Re this edit [1] the way to find out if it is an acceptable compromise is to ask on the talk page of the article and see what consensus emerges. DuncanHill (talk) 22:02, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Why are you refusing to sign your talk page contributions? DuncanHill (talk) 22:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. As I said earlier I was wondering about carrying on with Wikipedia. I'll see how things go (and they're not great at the moment, and the widely publicised complaints with Wikipedia seems to be vaild) if I feel more comfortable I will register. I do believe that registering is not enforced. BTW I do live in Cornwall, I believe could add quite alot of useful stuff. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.171.112 (talk)
You don't have to register to sign, and signing helps other editors understand who said what in a discussion. This makes debates easier to follow and more productive. As for registering, you will find that many (perhaps even most) editors will take you more seriously if you register. And, as I mentioned before, you actually have more privacy as a registered user than you do at the moment. When registered you can also create new articles and upload pictures to improve articles. It would be great to have a new Cornish contributor, and you might be interested in joining the Cornwall Wikiproject. But please, before making changes such as "Cornish" to "Briotish" - discuss it on the article talk page first - that is how Wikipedia works. DuncanHill (talk) 22:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. As I noted earlier I'm learning the ropes. re. "discuss it" - well [1] I did enter into discussion on the Richard Jenkin page, and [2] posted comments on other discussion page BEFORE I received a list of vandalism warnings (see above). These were inappropriate, rude, unconstructive and unwelcoming. I also remember seeing something about be bold in ones edits. Still, taking note I will not do any British / Cornish changes: I will try for something which hopefully will not cause such volatility - but I stress again all my edits have been factual.

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
