From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I behaved badly by directing my short temper over the recent editing of François Bernier to you. Now I know why you keep following D.T. around. So...can we shake hands or something? ( Wave a flag? Smoke a pipe, maybe? Invite User:BillC?)

Sounds good to me :) No offense taken. To be honest, I still don't know what you meant by "flagging your name." DT is an interesting fellow with an obvious desire to contribute, but I can't help but think his efforts could be better directed in...another manner. By the way, have you thought of creating an account? Easier to hold conversations that way. --Lukobe 19:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

This is too great an opportunity not to tell you about the flags. I'm new to Wikipedia, which I enyoy for its proposed anonimity. A glance at some of the user pages though brought to my attention egos almost as big as in the "real" word. And I have seen users insert tags only for the sake of selfreference. DT's contribution to the Bernier article did not exactly dispose me to believe in his credibilty as a real contributor. So I thought a vile plot was going on to direct attention to him, or through him to the user directing the attention: either useles(DT)(well, almost) or selfrefering (using the "identification banners" on the user pages ="flags" used for signaling the "name" of the user).I immediatly started yapping about... at your expense. I learned a lot from your attitude since then, hence my apology which I mean sincere. Although I am a very bad racialist (or a good one, depending -I know only of the Human race and take little interest in classification) I agree with your judgement of DT. Maybe among those with a similar understanding we can turn him into a scholar yet. As you have guessed: I am User:84.193.172.199.

Do you mean the "userboxes"? At any rate, as I posted on my talk page, I strongly suggest you create an account. (Wikipedia:Why_create_an_account?--there's a link to create one at the bottom.) Your anonymity is actually greater this way, because your IP address then no longer appears with your postings. As it is now, I can tell you're posting from telenet.be and you're therefore most likely in Belgium. Create a user name and nobody will be able to tell anything about you that you don't want them to know. --Lukobe 18:12, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. I don't have anything to hide, and may want to remain accountable for my contributions in a responsible way in the "real" world. (84.193.172.199 09:08, 24 April 2006 (UTC))

Well, it's not just that, it's also that your IP address may change, and may be shared by others. I really do strongly suggest you create an account--it gives you a lot more freedom to contribute. Your choice of course! And you can always "flag" your page with something like this:
This user comes from Belgium.

...and tell all about races and who comes first: Bicycle-races. (84.193.172.199 11:07, 26 April 2006 (UTC))

I changed "race scientist" to "anthropologist who defined race" -- Dark Tichondrias 12:05, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

And did he (François Bernier)"define" race or "specify" differences ?

Would not a definition of race be aplicable to any and all races regardles of the differences ? He surely did not phrase any such "definition" in his text A New Division of the Earth?

(84.193.172.199 13:01, 27 April 2006 (UTC))

If you know it was really a journal or whatever rather than a book, then change it. --- Dark Tichondrias 11:12, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Your comments on my talk page about my edits to the Francois Bernier article really should be directed to Dark Tichondrias--I merely moved his "Francois Bernier's first defined race" article content there, and marked it as such. I don't know the first thing about Bernier, I just wanted to eliminate his short article. Why don't you change it from book to journal in the article? --Lukobe 19:50, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
