[edit] Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my Talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome!

Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:30, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] your edit to Wieland-Miescher ketone

Hi, thanks for the addition to Wieland-Miescher ketone, but I have moved the addition to the talkpage. The data presented is certainly welcome, but unfortunately not in this format, or in this section. Could you please rewrite the contribution and insert it into the text of the article (so that it is a story). You can use the rest of the article as an example on how to write, or otherwise contact me (or someone else). Cheers! --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:30, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Try to write it in a more descriptive way, you are writing now for a broad audience, not for a chemical public. For example in the first sentence, you describe a proline catalyzed Robinson annulation and a Hajos-Parrish reaction, people don't know what that is. Furthermore, the intro of that sentence 'it is interesting to follow' is not a nice start. Try to rewrite it as a new history section, start e.g. with 'The reaction was first described by', and try to make it into a story. If you need images, and don't know how, you can ask for help on the subpage on the wikiproject chemistry (wikipedia:WikiProject chemistry, Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry/Image Request).
For the references, have a look in the article, you will see {{ref}} and {{note}} tags. Just give it a try. I'll keep an eye and I (and maybe others) will help a bit. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:12, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
For further hinst, have a look in the links that I provided in your welcome message, top of this page. Especially 'how to write a great article' and the 'manual of style'. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:15, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
