The 83rd Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 83rd Illinois Infantry was organized at Monmouth, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on August 21, 1862.

The regiment was mustered out on June 26, 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee and discharged in Chicago, Illinois on July 5, 1865.

The regiment suffered 4 officers and 34 enlistedmen who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 1 officers and 82 enlistedmen who died of disease, for a total of 121 fatalities.^[1]

• Colonel Frederick Hecker - Resigned March 21, 1864.
• Lieutenant Colonel Edward S. Solomon - Mustered out with the regiment.^[2]
