Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. --Herby talk thyme 08:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] March 2008
Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Porlock. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. - If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make any unconstructive edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant warnings.
This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Watchet, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing anyone from linking to them from all of Wikipedia. TimTay (talk) 20:44, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

PLEASE NOTE FROM POSTER - THESE LINKS ARE NOT, REPEAT NOT SPAM. THEY ARE TO VALID INFORMATION (NON ADVERTISING) SITES RELATING TO THE TOWN OF WATCHET. I SHOULD KNOW - I LIVE HERE! PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH ANY MORE ISSUES NOT POST BLUNT, UNTRUE MESSAGES! FEG@WATCHET.NET
- You are wrong - particularly with respect to the Visit Watchet link, which is definitely within the definition of spam. The Watchmoor harbour/marina info is questionable and contains info that is out of date as the marina proposals have now been rejected. It doesn't do itself any favours by having links on the page to known spam sites. I personally would tolerate that one site though, so will reinstate it. Visit Watchet will be removed if it is added back onto the page and you will be banned from Wikipedia if you persist in adding it. --TimTay (talk) 21:06, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for reply. New plans are out very soon and will be included. There are NO links on the page to spam sites.
Visit Watchet is a volunteer tourism site, with no email facilities and has never been used for any form of spam whatsoever - it only provides tourist information. I really would appreciate an explanation as to why you call it a spam site! (have you ever looked at it?) Why do you/wikopedia think it is spam?
I do a lot of voluntary work and help publish local leaflets for free etc. as well as do their web sites free so keep a check on tourist sites.)

ps. I have the same problems with entries for www.visit-exmoor.eu which I do not understand!
- The Visit Exmoor site is a well known spam site and has been removed several times from Exmoor-related Wikipedia articles. It is just a list of business, accommodation, restaurants etc. and doesn't add any value to Wikipedia articles. If I remember correctly a user was banned from Wikipedia a while back for adding that link repeatedly. Wikipedia is not about promoting business or external websites. External links should only be posted when they add value to the article itself. I apologise for removing the Watchet Harbour link as it does give an insight into a historical (and as you say possible future) even in Watchet's history, but I really cannot see what value the tourist directory sites add. Nobody is out to get you, it really isn't personal, it is just a bunch of people who care about Somerset-related Wikipedia articles. Why not register as a user and come and join us at Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset. If you are local and know so much about the area I'm sure there is lots of great info that you could add to the Somerset articles without adding external links. --TimTay (talk) 21:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi John. I think you might be misunderstanding what people are trying to tell you when they say you are adding "spam links". When you add links to an article to a business or organization you work for, represent, or just really, really like, you are spamming (in the Wikipedia sense). Have a look-see at WP:PANDA for amusing analogies. Continuing to add these links after multiple warnings will only serve to make someone block you, and perhaps even blacklist the websites you're trying to support. --SB_Johnny | talk 21:30, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
OK! understood now. (OLD VE was probably one on MY IPs). Will try and join the 'group' later tonight as yes I do CARE about the area! (Just look up my name on google for Somerset Gazette articles) I was founder of the Visit Exmoor body that recently fell apart and, though not to claim fame for myself, almost single handedly produced most of the Watchet Guides and still do the annual Exmoor Coast & Country Guide (www.exmoorholidayguide.co.uk) as a labour of love plus host the web sites for free. PROMISE not to add VE links anymore under what you said!
may thanks for info JR, Watchet
