Tell me, are there any circumstances at all when edits to your article are not immediately reverted by either you or one of the other ethusiasts? You and the others are demonstrating a very unhealthy attitude to the philosophy of Wikipedia. 82.20.28.142 (talk) 23:29, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- As I said in the edit summary: 'sorry, but these are unnecessary changes, and not improvements'. I take it you don't agree? Rothorpe (talk) 00:12, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Semi-protection
I am acquainted fairly well with the protection policy, carrying out over 95(?) protections so far, I think. The first unprotection was just to see whether the article would become a target once again, and it did. Unfortunately, you won't be able to edit it currently, but as you probably already know, registered accounts can (as long as they are over four days old). If you wish to contribute to the page, or wish for me to make any changes for you, just ask me on my talk page or alternatively ask another editor on Talk:Manchester. [edit] Bhutan
Thank you for your message. To be honest, I don't exactly remember the reason for my edit, but when I make edits of that sort, it's usually because one of the articles I watch has had its era style wrongly changed. When I see that, I usually look at the editor's history and frequently find someone tearing through Wikipedia changing era styles for no reason other than his own personal preference, frequently without making any other contribution. My usual response to this is to inform the user about WP:SEASON and revert as appropriate. I do check the history of each article I revert to make sure each reversion is justified, but it's not at all unlikely that I've made one or two mistakes in the process. However, I rely on those who watch the relevant articles to take care of them. Since I watch a number of Judaism-related articles, the problems I encounter are usually (in fact, exclusively, up to this point) caused by changes from BCE/CE to BC/AD. Consequently, most of my changes to era style are in the other direction.
Also, just to clarify Wikipedia policies regarding era style, there is no rule that says an article must carry the style in which it was originally composed, only that "(i)t is inappropriate for a Wikipedia editor to change from one style to another unless there is a substantive reason". This may seem a fine distinction, but it becomes relevant in articles like Second Temple, which was originally copied from Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897) (a public domain source that describes topics from a 19th century Christian perspective), but the editors of which have long since arrived at a consensus that the BCE/CE era style is more appropriate. I point this out because I also notice that you changed the era style of Zhang Qian. An editor who opposes your change could argue that the survival of an edit since March 2005 is a reasonable indication of consensus, although, as you point out, that change was not explained by the editor who made it.
Finally, since it looks as if you've taken an interest in Wikipedia, may I suggest that you register a user name? I really think it will enhance your experience here.
Thank you again, and happy editing. --Steven J. Anderson (talk) 04:11, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
