[edit] Links everywhere

While I understand that you know of (or more likely, own) this valuable site and want to steer people to it, most of those links are irrelevant unless they are made to go to the specific point in question. You'll notice that I, too, run a historical site running into several thousand pages — but I refrain from linking to it at the bottom of every single article on ancient Rome (or for that matter, Armenia) just because somewhere onsite I do in fact have good information about just about every conceivable Roman or Italian or ancient Armenian subject. Wikipedia is not a link farm!

If your site were better organized, so as to make deep linking convenient, it would be a different matter, if you had pages on Hethum II, etc. When my own pages are a really good resource, I do link to them from the corresponding Wikipedia article, as for example Monteleone di Spoleto, Trevi, etc.: but notice that the page that I link to is one that the reader of the Wikipedia article is going to be specifically interested in, not my top level page.

Also, since Wikipedia is about improving Wikipedia, rather than directing traffic elsewhere or pumping up one's own search engine rankings (whether on purpose or not), you might consider contributing more usefully by improving each of the Wikipedia articles. Bill 3 July 2005 12:01 (UTC)

Addendum: On the other hand, I stuck up for your link where I feel it belongs, see User_talk:El_C. Best, Bill 3 July 2005 15:07 (UTC)
Second addendum, hopefully even more helpful: Linking criteria, for Armenian stuff, are much more favourable to you at the Armenian Wiki: Armeniapedia, where Raffi's basic policy is that if it's Armenian, it's of interest. Your site would be a valuable addition there. (It would still be more useful if it were structured so that the user could access individual pages more conveniently!) You must be far more selective and cease immediately from inserting that link en mass to any and all Armenian topics, or you may be blokced from editing on account of Wikipedia's vandalism policy. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. El_C 3 July 2005 21:56 (UTC)

Welcome back. Please review my note above as well as the Wikipedia:External links guideline and the link section in the Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not policy. Please note that if you continue to insert this link en mass, you may be blocked from editing for self-promotion. Thanks. El_C 10:38, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Again

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. [edit] Answer

Hi!

Even though I can understand that the link to the lecture could be perceived as a way to increase trafic to our site, but 1) this was not my intention 2) I thought that it could be a good reference to an example about Dadrian's argumentation and his work. Isn't an external resource like this relevant to the page about the scholar in question?

With regards,
