From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I noticed you posted a comment on the color page - and I'd like to take the time to respond. First and most importantly, you said you didn't know how to edit a page. Editing is the most important aspect of Wikipedia, so this is obviously something you should know. Look at the top of this page(just above that huge heading). You should see a few tabs. "user page" then "discussion" then "edit this page." In order to edit, all you have to do is click on edit this page. Really basic editting on Wikipedia is quite simple. All you do is type like a word document. However there are a few differences, for example, to link to an article in Wikipedia, you put two brackets around it, like this: [[Color]] - that will show up as Color. To bold something, you add three single quotes- like this: '''Bold Text''' - which will show up as Bold Text. See? After this I will post a welcome message, that should allow you to get to know your way around.

The second thing would be that you mentioned "Color" was mispelled. This is actually a controversy of sorts on Wikipedia. Color is actually spelled a few ways, in Britan it's spelled "Colour" and in America it's spelled "Color." Wikipedia policy states that because the article originally (when it was created) had "Color" - then the whole thing should have color - just like any article that starts out with British spellings, should always have british spellings. --Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 23:55, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Hi, 81.159.159.198, and Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the encyclopedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read the simplified ruleset. If you need help, feel free to use any of Wikipedia's hundreds of resources. I personally recommend the Wikipedia:Boot Camp, where in addition to standard posts, you can use an IRC to chat online with fellow Wikipedians willing to help! In addition, Wikipedia also has pages dedicated to the use of Wikipedia, for example, if you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting pages visit the manual of style. Feel free to post questions on my talk page - I'm happy to help you with anything you need.

Additional tips

Here are some extra tips to help you get around in Wikipedia:
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using four tildes (~). If your keyboard doesn't have tildes (or for whatever reason) you can also click the Image:Wikisigbutton.png button on the bar above the editing section.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.

Good luck. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielfolsom (talkcontribs)

I understand that, but why did you need to change the spelling? There is no need for it! It's not English, if you want to have your own language, go ahead, just don't keep making endless spelling changes, make your own language!!

[edit] Controversy with "colour"

I've noticed that many people have issues with the way colour is spelt, as in it is spelt the American way. I am no longer bothered by the difference in spelling, if the Americans wish to spell it that way just to be a pain in the arse, then let them, we still spell it colour and I'm coming to New York this year and I can't wait to make fun! Hehe, here I come America! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.242.89.213 (talk) 19:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC).
