User talk:81.145.240.18

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Attention:

This IP address, 81.145.240.18, is part of a pool of dynamically allocated addresses and is registered to the following organization BT/AOL. Applying an indefinite block to this IP is not appropriate, unless it is a soft block, because the IP address will later be reallocated to a different, unrelated, and unsuspecting user, thereby impairing access to Wikipedia in an inappropriate fashion. Comments left on this page may be received by other users of this IP and appear to be irrelevant. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking. In the event of vandalism from this address, efforts can be made to contact BT/AOL to report abuse.

The best approach is to determine the CIDR IP numerical address range and make a higher-level decision to soft-block the entire range. http://www.arin.net/ (for approximately North America) and related sites can help to identify that range. Caution is advised when applying a range block as other Wikipedians, both registered and otherwise, may be affected.

If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this need not necessarily be the IP address of your machine. If you are frustrated by irrelevant comments appearing here, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider using a soft block with the template {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Merlin and david. If you oppose the deletion of an article, you may comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. ThePointblank 21:14, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Your question about these warnings

Hi, You may never see this message, but I'll explain to you what happened. There are 2 types of user of Wikipedia: those who have and account and those who haven't. We use the IP of the latter as a way to differentiate and contact them. That's what happened: someone with the same IP address than you repeatedly vandalized Wikipedia a few days ago. That might either be someone else on your computer or even just an other customer of your Internet Service Provider. Don't worry, but you should consider registering an account to get rid of these :) I hope these explanations were useful! -- lucasbfr talk 22:46, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

You are free to make constructive edits after the block has expired, but please note that vandalism (including page blanking or addition of random text), spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, personal attacks; and repeated, blatant violations of our polices concerning neutral point of view and biographies of living persons will not be tolerated.
