802.1Qat

Stream Reservation Protocol (SRP) is an enhancement to Ethernet protocol that allows resource reservation at Ethernet layer. This is being currently standardized in IEEE 802.1Qat. SRP defines the concept of stream/flow at Ethernet Layer. Also, it provides a mechanism for end-to-end management of resource reservation for these streams so as to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS). Unlike RSVP, it works for multicast streams.

[edit] Principle of Operation

SRP gets the resources allocated and configured in the end nodes and the transit nodes along the data stream as well as provide an end-to-end signaling mechanism to detect the success/failure of the effort to set up the resources.

This is done through Listener and Talker primitives. Former is used to indicate what streams are to be received and the latter to announce the streams that can be supplied by a bridged entity.
