[edit] January 2008

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. His name is Marquis. Go to http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing?lid=ABCCOMGlobalMenu&lpos=FEP and replay the first show. Go to the final 5 minutes and watch them get introduced and you will clearly see his name spelled Marquis Jeanenawhitney (talk) 23:45, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make any unconstructive edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant warnings.

I can't help it if ABC had a typo. His name is MARQIS without the U. I can send you his high school senior year yearbook picture which states that it is Marqis. You can also check out his high school's website (www.glendalehigh.com) which CLEARLY knows how to spell his name. You can also check out his official website www.qiswalker.com . How much more proof do you need??????

That is exactly the type of information that needs to be cited. Up until this point I would have stayed with ABC. But since you provided two good references I do now feel that his name is spelled with out the u. Did you bring this to the talk page? I have not been there yet, so I don't know what was done. But I will in a moment. Thanks for providing the information. The next time you make an edit make sure you don't just add or remove unless you have sources like this and show them. If you had done this in the first place we would have never have got to this point. I would have said okay his name is Marqis and let it be. Do you understand what I am saying? Cite your sources in the future. Also you may want to read up on how to edit and sign your posts. I have added a welcome on your page here that will explain on how to be an editor. Welcome and thanks again. --Jeanenawhitney (talk) 08:41, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Calm down

I just took a look at your edits and you seemed to explode over the fact that I changed your edits. As well as going off on another editor because they agreed with me. That is just wrong.

  1. The live show and online video of the show showed his name spelled on the stage one way. Not knowing who this person is we just take it as this is the correct information. Until someone can otherwise provide information that it is not.
  2. You made the edit from information you knew to be correct. But, you did so without citing your sources. Making an edit like that gives all other editors the right to reverse your edit because a previous source was stated and you did not cite your sources. And that is why your edits were reverted.
  3. Then you made the edits again on (06:16, 22 January 2008) with the edit summary of (His name is Marqis without the expected "u". Whoever keeps changing this back needs to stop. The correct spelling is Marqis, or Qis for short.). First that is no way to do an edit. It just gives other editors the right to reverse your edits again. Because again you did not cite your sources. And clearly your edit summary was not a proper telling other editors to stop. That just would not stand up as a reason not to revert your edits.

The only reason your edits are not being reverted is because you cited references here, and I happened to see them. Which again is all wrong. Here is what you should have done.

When you made the first change you should have cited your references when you made the edit. You could have done this in a number of ways, the best way was what I did tonight and added a <ref> tag showing <ref>[http://www.glendalehigh.com/ Glendale high school (Marqis name spelling)]</ref>. That shows other editors that the change is good and has proper sources for the edit.

You could have added the referenced information on the articles talk page. Not a good idea because other editors might not see it and reverse your edits again. But at least you have documented it and if another editor reverses your edit, you can reverse the edit and say in the edit summary see talk page.

The final way would be to cite your references in your edit summary. Like (see http://www.glendalehigh.com/ ). This is not recommended, but least you have documented it.

Finally look at the way you wrote the following:

I can't help it if ABC had a typo. His name is MARQIS without the U. I can send you his high school senior year yearbook picture which states that it is Marqis. You can also check out his high school's website (www.glendalehigh.com) which CLEARLY knows how to spell his name. You can also check out his official website www.qiswalker.com . How much more proof do you need??????

That just looks like your angry. And will only get you into more problems. Typing in uppercase is considered shouting. The tone of your writing was just plain angry. You should have just added something like the following:

ABC had a typo. His name is Marqis without the u. You can check out his high school's website (www.glendalehigh.com) which shows his name. You can also check out his official website www.qiswalker.com.

If you had just done all of this we would not be where we are at now. I do think you do need to say something to the other editor about the angry message you left his talk page (User talk:Davehi1).

I hope that you contribute more in the future and understand how we are building an encyclopedia here. And that this is merely a learning lesson for you and me. If you any questions do not hesitate to ask on my talk page at User talk:Jeanenawhitney

One other note http://www.qiswalker.com/ is not his official site, it clearly states that official site coming soon. I ran a who is check and it is registered not to Marqis but to someone else. This could be an agent, a fan or even an agent of ABC. So anything cited on that web site would be questionable, especially with the "Please take the time to vote" statement.

Thanks again for pointing out the references. --Jeanenawhitney (talk) 11:15, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
