Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites that you are affiliated with, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. "Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites that you are affiliated with, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product." This would include most external links on wikipedia. All external links should be eliminated based on this definition. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.31.62.201 (talkcontribs) .

I think you need to read WP:EL and WP:SPAM more carefully. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:48, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

It's pretty clear to me when it says "links that exist to attract visitors to a web site" --- I can probably find hundreds that do exactly that. They are not reference sites in the strict sense, many are hobby sites many with ads. Like a lot of the reasons for "keep" or "delete" I read on wikipedia I think you are interpreting the policy to justify your personal opinions. Most of the reasons for "delete' I read appear to me to be based on personal interpretation of policy like "links that exist to attract visitors". If you want I will find 10-20 that fit this description and post them here. So it seems that those with more knowledge and experience with Wikipedia control what goes on it and their opinons are based on personal interpretation of policy that wouldn't stand up to say editorial scrutiny of a Brittanica editorial staff. I do not want to contribute to making wikipedia a worse resource but also I never considered it another Brittanica. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.31.62.201 (talkcontribs)

I agree that Wikipedia has too many links. Feel free to delete some (though it's helpful to note why you're deleting them in some cases). Also; Wikipedia isn't trying to be Brittanica. OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:57, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
