[edit] July 2007
Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on Wikipedia:Help desk . Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Chris g 07:29, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your Comments
You are, of course, welcome to your opinion about Wikipedia, but it does seem that you are alone in having these technical problems.
Now, meanwhile, you purport to be a high school teacher. Considering that you referred to two volunteers who were trying to help you as idiots- I have my doubts. Your conduct is disgraceful, and more befitting a child than an adult, let alone a teacher. The accuracy of Wikipedia and the ease of use are attested to in a multitude of sources; from Nature's report which found Wikipedia and the Encyclopedia Britannica to be similarly accurate on science articles, to every other news source that has described the model. I daresay the tens of millions of editors who use Wikipedia and edit it on a regular basis find it manageable as well. When you quote it to the school board; perhaps you could mention those as well.
Your comments regarding the intellectual capacities of the editors is also noted as rather amusing, given some of the editors.
Now please, do behave in a manner befitting your age and position.

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. ~ Wikihermit 08:45, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Payment
For every good edit you make you get one {{WikiCookie}}, how about that? That's more than I get! At the moment you're in the red so you'd better get editing! --Chris g 08:56, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Final warning
This is your only warning.
The next time you make a personal attack, you will be blocked for disruption. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Krimpet 10:04, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bad start?
Hi, I have just read through the entire discussion at Wikipedia:Help Desk and think things have simply got off to a bad start. Before I start though, I will explain that I am not an English scholar and my grammar and spelling are sometimes a little off, but my ability to research and knowledge of certain subject areas make up for that.
Now, to the crux of the matter - you feel that this site contains errors which will damage the education of your pupils if you allow them to use the site as a source. I agree that the site contains errors, but disagree that it is detrimental to a child's education. Part of a child's education is being taught how to research. How to trace things back to the correct source. Anyone who quotes Wikipedia directly is not doing this, as is anyone who quotes any encyclopaedia. They should be looking for the sources of claims made on articles, reading those original sources, and then quoting them directly. The fact that they are not doing this is down to a few things:
- They are lazy students, and should be penalised as such
- They have not been correctly taught how to research things
- They are plagiarising other people who match the above 2 reasons.
Next we will discuss the issues you had at the help desk. Your initial comment there was confusing. It didn't outline exactly what the problem was. Why can't you edit? What is the exact reason? The responses on the talk page by a couple of editors tried to address these issues by telling you that you don't need to sign up and also how to edit. If you could explain to me what the exact problem was, that would be helpful - having visitors be able to edit is an important part of the site!
Finally, lets discuss your tone and attitude. I think the main issue people had (and likely still have) with your comments was the generally sarcastic tone. Your comments amounted to personal attacks several times and overall were uncivil. In the classroom, would you accept this tone between yourself and your students? Would you accept it between students? How about between faculty members? Working in a school myself, I can say that anyone who behaved in this way, whether staff or student, would be disciplined for it. It is not appropriate and not conducive to a positive working environment. We are all volunteers here (meaning that anyone can edit, voluntarily, not that Wikipedia has advertised for volunteers) and as such a general level of respect should be maintained.
So, to finish, I will say 'Welcome to Wikipedia'! Please try and understand that this site isn't out to damage anybody's education and that any help improving it is welcome. Also, asking for money will likely get you ridiculed and marked as a troll.-Localzuk(talk) 12:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
