The 731st saw combat in the European Theater of Operations, 13 May 1943-19 April 1945.
It trained for bombardment missions from, 1947-1951. Between 1952 and 1982, the 731st trained successively for tactical reconnaissance, bombardment, and airlift operations. It has flown worldwide airlift missions since 1982.
