[edit] Protecting the sandbox
Please stop requesting protection for the sandbox. The sandbox is for new and unregistered users to try out some of the features of Wikipedia in a safe area which won't impact on the rest of the encyclopaedia. The sandbox cannot be semi-protected, as that would mean that those users could then not edit the sandbox, which would defy the whole point of it. Any problems, leave me a message on my talk page. - No problem. Oh, one more little thing, but could you remember to add new comments on people's talk pages to the bottom of the page? Probably the easiest way is to click on the "+" sign next to "Edit this page" at the very top - that'll start you up a new section which will then slot in at the bottom of the page. It just helps to keep things in order. Thanks! GBT/C 13:29, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- No worries, and thank you for the barnstar. You're fine to continue editing as an IP (ie. without an account) but there are lots of good reasons for creating an account - rightly or wrongly, people do tend to look on the contributions of IP editors with a bit more scepticism. Have you considered creating an account? It doesn't necessarily mean giving up any of the "anonymous" bit that goes with editing through an IP... GBT/C
- Well, there's nothing wrong with having multiple accounts (I, myself, have two) - it's when you start to use multiple accounts for nefarious purposes (good hand, bad hand, for example, or to !vote twice in discussions) that sockpuppetry becomes an issue. Why do you think you would be chased off Wikipedia for your contributions if you edited through an account? On the presumption that your IP address doesn't change too much, it would probably still be possible to build up a picture of your editing history (people tend to edit around the same area of articles, or do the same type of work). As long as your edits were constructive and aimed at improving the encyclopaedia, then why would you feel you were at risk of being chased off? The public face of GBT/C 12:55, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
