[edit] Message on my talk page
Are you asking here about the external links to the site or about the Arts and Opinion article? -- Siobhan Hansa 00:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC) I am asking about Notable Contributors. You request citations. We cited the articles published in Arts & Opinion by the authors. Why is this unacceptable? Prior to that you removed links from my name to the publication. As well you removed names of Senior Editor and Arts Editor. Why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.80.49.87 (talk • contribs)
- I removed the links put in as citations because they didn't support the assertion that those people contribute to the e-zine. The articles were all reprints. A contributor writes for the magazine.
- I'm not sure what your name is - so I'm not certain which of my edits you refer to by "you removed links from my name to the publication" But I did a lot of link removal in the article because it wasn't in keeping with our Manual of Style and the links didn't provide encyclopedic information about the e-zine. One link to the e-zine form the external links section should be sufficient. In general only citations should be externally linked in the body of the article (and even those should really go to a footnotes/reference section first).
- On removing the senior editor and Arts editor, they seemed like trivial mentions. We don't usually name the staff of a publication unless the people themselves are notable. -- Siobhan Hansa 02:16, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Fine. Would it be acceptable to rename the category : NOTABLE ARTICLES, with links to their publications in Arts & Opinion? Would it be acceptable to link my name to our .www? In general, could you make suggestions on what we can do to enhance our profile in wikipedia? Thanking you, Robert Lewis, editorArtsandopinion 03:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC).
- Adding additional links to the Arts and Opinion website within the article is only appropriate if doing so provides encyclopedic information about the zine. There's already one link to the website. Linking to individual articles is not appropriate.
- If your approach here is to raise Arts and Opinion's profile in Wikipedia you're on the wrong track. To raise your profile here you need to raise it in the outside world. Wikipedia is not a publicity platform and we have strong guidelines against the use of articles to promote organizations, people or points of view.
- To develop the article (and in fact to ensure it doesn't get deleted as non-notable) what we really need are independent, reliable sources that talk about the zine. What it is, its history, its impact on the world. If its been profiled in national newspapers or well regarded literary magazines, that would be really useful. I have tried some searches, but the zine's name isn't very conducive to search engines look ups!
- I assume you're the Robert Lewis who has written the Spectator articles. If that's the case adding a (short) bit of bio about you (relating your writing career and your career as editor of the zine) to the article, with an external link or two as citations showing your status as a writer would probably help too. A citation link to a bio on the Artsandopinion website might also be appropriate (it all depends on what is written and what's on the webpage). -- Siobhan Hansa 03:44, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
