[edit] Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my Talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome!

Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. Travb (talk) 18:46, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Register and comments written at AfD

I would strongly suggest you register your username, anons are not as taking as seriously as regular users. Morton will probably bring up that you have few edits (that is what I would do), this will lesson the impact of your comments in the AfD. Travb (talk) 18:49, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

RE:

Comment If Morton is consistently problematic, it may be time to file a User Conduct RFC. I myself am not completely familiar with his behavior, but what I have seen so far does not fall into the category of what is generally understood to be constructive behavior. --70.48.71.53 18:41, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[1]

As per:

Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment#Request_comment_on_users "An RfC may bring close scrutiny on all involved editors, and can lead to binding arbitration. Filing an RfC is therefore not a step to be taken lightly or in haste."

Morton and I have witnessed two Arbcoms were the people filing the ArbCom had the Arbcom blow up in their face. Rootology was justifiably indefinetly banned after filing a RfC then an Arbcom against another user. RfC's really should not "be taken lightly or in haste".
In addition, Morton has the strong support of several long time editors and admins, who will fanatically support virtually anything that he does. So an Morton RfC is actually an RfC filed against not only Morton, but several other intellegent editors and powerful admins too.Travb (talk) 18:57, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

As per (moved from my talk page):

With regards to the RFC suggestion, it is not something I will do myself (and not just because I don't have a formal account.) I don't know Morton Devonshire's long-term pattern of behavior, but if there is one where he just targets articles that he disagrees with politically for no objective reasons then a User Conduct RFC might be the appropriate response instead of dealing with him on an article by article basis. --70.48.71.53 18:52, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Just don't involve me in any RfC. You just don't understand my edit history and Morton's. I have made a lot of powerful adversaries on wikipedia, including some Arbcom members. I am very lucky to still be on wikipedia. I am one of the few editors who has a reversed indefinete boot.

Morton's edit history was much more careful in his editing on wikipedia, and has the strong support of several long time editors and powerful admins. His one and only boot was quickly reversed by another admin.

Please keep in mind that Morton himself is reading every one of my comments. Travb (talk) 19:09, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

No problem, I understand then. I won't be filing an RFC since I don't see a pattern of behavior yet, I was responding to your suggestion of one on the AfD. This particular AfD and his behavior leading up to it was inappropriate, but he may just be having an off day, which can be forgiven. --70.48.71.53 19:14, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Current AfD

RE:

[2]

I removed, then on second thought, returned this comment.

I am sorry, I broke a cardinal wikipedia rule on this AfD: no matter how obvious a wikipedians' bias is, you don't mention it in debates. There is WP:NPA and other rules. On one level, this is a silly rule, but it keeps people being civil in very uncivil heated situations.

I guess I broke this unspoken rule because I am so tired of edit warring with Morton for months. Anyway, as soon as someone asks me to delete my comments about Morton in the AfD, I will, no matter how true the assessment is.

I would suggest removing the comments about TDC. It doesn't help. Maybe I should remove the comments about Morton now in the AfD, what do you think? (nevermind, removed comments)

I would also suggest removing: "Are you confused Morton?" This doesnt help either.

TDC and I also have a rich history, much older than Morton. [3]

Travb (talk) 20:13, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Glad you removed those comments. I noticed that Tom Harrison, an admin who often supports Morton, just voted to delete. It is still early in the AfD, I will continue to watch the AfD and see how it develops. I trust you will too. There is no way that this article will be deleted, commondreams is too notable. [edit] Afd page

GabrielF just removed Morton's entry on the his AfD page.[4] I notice you mentioned User:GabrielF/AfDs on the AfD.

GabrielF and I also have a rich, albiet shorter history together. LOL welcome to the soap opera. There are months of edit histories to keep you entertained.Travb (talk) 21:18, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
