[edit] Regarding edits made during November 11, 2006 to Sid Haig
Note that the message was not so much a warning but a note stating when removing over 5000 characters of text from an article you should use to edit summary to explain your intentions or it can be easily seen as vandalism.
My job is to protect Sid's article from vandals, and as such if an anon was to blank such a large amount of text again (with no explanation) I would so the same. Surely you understand this is in his best interests as well.
I strongly recommend;
- You use an edit summary in future
- You get an account (more on these follow)
Apologies, and I have fixed his article, Glen 06:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- PS: Welcome message follows
[edit] Welcome
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
Here are some other hints and tips:
- I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
- When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.
If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my Talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome!
Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. Glen 06:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah it does happen, which is why my first note said "It may not have been your intention but...". If you look at the history page you'll see the only editors today were you, and me - thanks for fixing Glen 07:20, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yikes! We do have a big problem
Hi there, the edits you made are a copyright violation from http://www.sidhaig.com/biography.htm - now I realise you can more than likely obtain or give us permission - but, to protect Wikipedia I've had to revert back to the last non copyvio version (dont worry I can fix it in a second when we sort this).
Have a read of our copyright policy and please get back to me ASAP. Thanks Glen 07:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from an article. Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Take a look at our welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. Heimstern Läufer 07:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Libel"
Please be careful about throwing the term "libel" around. It has in the past been taken as a legal threat. Remember to assume good faith on the part of other editors. Also, regarding submission of content for which you hold the copyright, please be aware that you are licensing that content under the GFDL by doing so. Shimeru 18:21, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright violation from sidhaig.com
I understand that you own the copyright to the sidhaig.com website, unfortuately being an encyclopedia and one of the top 15 websites in the world we need this formalised as the foundation will not leave itself open to copyright infringement suits.
Please follow the directions at Contributors' rights and obligations. This is the only way we can accept this information. Thanks in advance Glen 19:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- No disrespect but your writing that as some random IP doesnt really help us identify you as the owner of the website. Could you send an email from sidhaig.com perhaps? Or possibly post something to the website stating you license it freely for use on Wikipedia? Glen 01:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removal of info from Sid Haig
You're right - its unreferenced and as such it shouldnt be there. I'll monitor the article and ensure it doesnt happen again. If you could just sort that copyright issue for me then we are good to go :) Glen 00:45, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Done!
So glad we got there in the end, thanks so much for your cooperation. Glen 05:58, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
