Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Chris Chittleborough 06:58, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Brian Leiter

Please see the reference I have provided for this assertion. And please stop making personal attacks upon me by accusing me of vandalism. Maybe there is a legitimate disagreement as to whether the xoxohth material should be included, but ,my re-inserting the material does not amount to vandalism. As it stands, the Leiter page reads like a promotional bio, not an article about a controversial figure in the world of law school rankings. Interestingstuffadder 21:05, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps we can work together to include some content on his controversial law school rankings if you don't like what is there now? Interestingstuffadder 21:24, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I've added one of our standard welcome-to-a-new-user messages above, even though you've been editing here for a while. At the risk (certainty?) of boring you, let me again encourage you to create an account here; doing so has non-obvious benefits (especially if you have a dynamic IP address, or edit from more than one computer).
  • If you could add some content about rankings, that would be great! Even at this distance (several thousand miles!), US law school rankings seem like an important topic which Wikipedia does not cover well.
  • Please be careful about using the word "vandalism" in edit summaries. What we have here is a "content dispute", not vandalism. Continued use of the word risks contravening Wikipedia:Assume good faith, an important guideline.
  • Wikipedia:Edit wars are easy to get into, but (IMO) one ends up damaging oneself nearly as much as one's opponents (as too many Wikipedians have found out the hard way). Debating the matter on the talk page may seem like more effort, but it saves time and pain in the long run.
  • I like Wikipedia. I read it a lot. I want it to be a great encyclopedia. That's why I edit it. But I don't take it as gospel. Wikipedia is quite open about this: see Wikipedia:Risk disclaimer. I'm sure there are some people who believe everything they read here, but they'll soon learn better. Therefore, I ask, how much harm does it do if our article about Prof Leiter gives undue weight to this xoxohth stuff for a few hours? (A period of days would be a different matter!) I think the lack of detail about rankings is more important. You are, of course, quite free to disagree.
  • If you aren't able to contribute anything about rankings, would you happen to know anybody who could?

[edit] 3RR

This is your first and last warning to both you and User:Interestingstuffadder about edit warring on Brian Leiter. If either of you revert that article one more time you will both be blocked in violation of the Three revert rule. This is clearly a content dispute and not vandalism and you both know it.
