[edit] Les Misérables (musical)
- Cosette is never known as anything but Cosette in the musical; in the novel her name is indeed Euphrasie Fauchelevent but this is never mentioned in the musical. In the book she gets this (fake) surname from Valjean during their stay in the convent; he in turn gets it from the gardener posing as his brother (the same man he saved from being crushed under a cart in Montreil-sur-Mer). Thus, Fantine's name would not have been Fauchelevent as Valjean (and thus by proxy Cosette) did not assume it as an alias until well after her passing. Similarly, it is not mentioned in the musical whether Gavroche is the son of the Thénardiers or not. Additionally, I do not see how Cosette can be considered important enough to be billed first of the leads, as her part is not very big. Jean Valjean, being the main character, ought to be listed first, followed by Javert.

- I understand that you would rather not display Cosette's full name. I just thought that maybe we could display the names as they are in the novel. As far as the placement of the names, I was simply doing it alphabetically as it is done at http://www.stageagent.com. By the way, do you suggest that we follow their model for leads vs. supporting, ie, list Fantine as a supporting role as opposed to a lead?

- The problem, however, is that Cosette in the musical is NOT called Euphrasie Fauchelevent. Find one official guide about the MUSICAL that refers to her as such. Rather than informative, it seems confusing for those who have not read the book.

- As for stageagent.com, no, I do not suggest we follow their guide, as it's an unoffical, non-show specific site. I wouldn't trust a site that lists little Cosette as a more prominent character than Enjolras very much, frankly. The official site lists the leads thus: Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Thénardier, Mme Thénardier, Marius, Enjolras, Cosette, Eponine (West End cast) [1] or Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Eponine, Cosette, Thénardier, Mme Thénardier, Marius, Enjolras (Broadway cast)[2].

You make a good point! I've removed the other parts of Cosette's name and listed her simply as Cosette. However, I suggest that we keep Eponine's last name simply to make it more clear to people that she is in fact the daughter of the Thénardiers, as I know that there are many people who never actually understand that. Would you agree with that?
In addition, I certainly think that we shoud list Marius's last name, as he calls himself Marius Pontmercy in A Heart Full of Love.
Thanks for all of your help in making this article the best it can be! hehe
[edit] French Names
No roblem! I was actually introduced to Les Mis via the French version. I've been trying to add the original song titles to all the Les Mis pages. I think a lot of people would say that it doesn't fit, but since the English musical is a translation of the French version, I think it's important information Almighty Rajah 14:33, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
