7-Eleven Speak Out Wireless

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

7-Eleven Speak Out Wireless is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator operating out of the United States and Canada, owned by 7-Eleven. The service was introduced in the U.S. in April 2004 and operates on the AT&T Mobility network via the "mobile virtual network enabler" Ztar mobile. In Canada the operation began November 2005 on the Rogers GSM network with Nokia phones.

In Canada, Speak Out Wireless offers a fixed rate of $0.20/minute for local calls, $0.30/minute for long-distance calls within Canada and the U.S., and a monthly 911 fee of $0.99. Prepaid vouchers in denominations of $25, $50, $75 and $100 are offered at 7-Eleven convenience stores, and must be activated within 90 days of purchase. Unused minutes can be rolled over with the activation of a prepaid voucher, which expires 365 days after activation.

Text messages are offered at $0.05 for both incoming and outgoing messages within Canada, and $0.25 for international text messages. Phones are sold with $5.00 of airtime pre-loaded.

SIM cards are not sold separately making the purchase of a phone required for new Speak Out Wireless customers. Interesting to note is that many of the handsets that are offered, including the Nokia 1600, are unlocked, so any SIM card from another phone provider will work in it should a customer decide to leave Speak Out's prepaid service for other GSM providers.
