On September 15, 1941 this unit was converted from the 30th Independent Brigade Group (Guards) in the United Kingdom as part of the Guards Armoured Division. On January 15, 1943 it was renamed the 6th Guards Tank Brigade and finally being named the 6th Guards Brigade on June 17, 1945.
The Brigade served in North West Europe from JULY 20 1944 to June 16, 1945 with various formations in the 21st Army Group.
