[edit] Kinston Indians category in Cliff Lee article

Hi ... FYI, I've posted a comment about your addition of the Kinston Indians players category on the discussion page of the Cliff Lee article (here). --Sanfranman59 18:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infoboxes

Look, I got a message last night from an administrator that they were changed formerteams to teams. Therefore quit removing all of my edits. It's meant to be that way. Please. Soxrock 15:00, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jeremy Sowers infobox

I think you'll find if you check the pages of other players with major league experience who are currently in the minors, the vast majority have their major league affiliation in the infobox. Here are a few random examples: John Koronka, Kurt Birkins, Ryan Braun, Mike Pelfrey. But I see that at least some of the Yankees' players have their current minor league team in the infobox and there may very well be others. I don't know if this has ever been discussed at either WP:WPBB or WP:WPBBP, but given that there's some inconsistency out here, it may be worth taking it before the community to try and reach a consensus. In my opinion, since players move back and forth between levels so frequently, it will be an awful lot of unnecessary busy work to keep the pages up to date with their current minor league teams. It seems to me that our time is much better spent improving the quality of the text in the articles and adding sources (which are conspicuously absent from the majority of player articles). --Sanfranman59 17:52, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Cleveland Indians

In response to your comments on my talk page:

The problem of clicking [show] on a collapsed navigation box "wiping out" the contents below the box appears to a browser-related issue. I looked at Kinston Indians (revision as of 17:49, 27 July 2007) and found that Template:Cleveland Indians expanded properly when using Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2, Opera 9 and Safari 3 on Windows XP. I was only able to replicate this problem when using Internet Explorer 6 and even then it only happened when I was not logged in. This problem also occurs on other pages with a mix of collapsible and non-collapsible navigation boxes, such as Columbus Blue Jackets. One solution I found was a combination of placing the non-collapsible boxes first and making the collapsible boxes use the full width of the page.

Before
{{MLB Indians franchise}} <-- collapsible
{{Cleveland Indians}}     <-- collapsible, not full width
{{Carolina League}}       <-- non-collapsible
{{North Carolina Sports}} <-- collapsible
After
{{Carolina League}}
{{MLB Indians franchise}}
{{Cleveland Indians|width=100%}}
{{North Carolina Sports}}

When I made all the baseball team navigational boxes collapsible I also made them full width, but my changes were all reverted by another editor who didn't like the templates full width (see this diff for user's name and comments). Therefore, as a compromise, I added an optional "width" parameter so the templates could be made full width on specific pages as needed. -- Zyxw 02:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] B-R, Wiki, stats

Thanks. The whole reason there was a controversy anyway was because Jaranda and some other editors thought copying certain stats meant we were making copyright violations. Obviously we weren't, but that was the perception they got. And yeah, I started contributing to B-R on August 5th. I must say, while their minor league pages are amazing, their MLB pages are jokes. With me, they're getting help with MLB pages. Thanks again for the nice comments SoxrockTalk/Edits 13:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hmm

im patrolling recent changes and i see alot of edits to baseball players from your ip adress, and they all seem to be changing HTML codes. What exactly are you doing?the juggreserection IstKrieg! 20:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

oh. thank you then.the juggreserection IstKrieg! 21:01, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Which consensus are you talking about? The one I remember was when there was any question about what colors should be used. In cases like Bob Feller - who only played on one team his whole career - this seems pretty unnecessary. —Wknight94 (talk) 21:27, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree; there doesn't seem to be any major argument against using different colors for different players. If infoboxes were always supposed to use the same colors, the option to vary wouldn't exist (or would be actively patrolled). I'd recommend changing back. MisfitToys (talk) 21:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I've never been too keen on the colors, as it's a wikipedia editors' invention, which is arguably "original research" and POV-pushing. However, they are no great harm, either, except in the few cases where battles ensue, such as with Reggie Jackson. And if a retired player spent all (or nearly all) of his career with one team and/or if he's in the Hall of Fame and his plaque identifies him with a particular team, using that team's colors seems OK. To put it another way, if they want to specify gray for everyone, why even have colors? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 08:26, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adam Heether

It would help matters greatly if the citations you added to this article had links that we could click on. It helps with verification. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 18:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmmmm... shell out money out of my own pocket to prove the notability of someone I nominated for AfD? I don't think so. Doesn't quite seem logical, or thrifty. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:38, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I may have overstated my concerns about these sources. I've been burned before by some "authors" who simply made up fake references that had no links in an attempt to evade deletion or just make trouble, so I may be a bit more sensitive to these than most other folks. I'm a reporter, so I tend to be a bit skeptical as it is — and old saying in our business says, "If you mother says she loves you, check it out." I don't think it's going to make any difference in this case, as it appears that Heether was named to the FSL all-star team, which does pass (barely) the notability standards in WP:BASEBALL. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:59, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
By the way, you might want to seriously consider signing up for a Wikipedia user name. It lends more credibility to edits and comments you might make, makes it easier for other users to communicate with you, and also allows you to create new articles. And, of course, it's FREE! :-) - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 20:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I see. I'll respond to your regular user name now, if need be. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 20:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
