In the XIX century ergastolo were the facilities were the person sentence to life where relageted. The penal code of 1930 wrote at article number 22 that the penalty of Ergastolo is the perpetual imprisoment . As I know in Italy doesn't exist the life sentence without parole. see libertà condizionata
