[edit] africaresource.com

(Response to [User_talk:SiobhanHansa&diff=cur#external_link_-_africaresource.com post on my talk page] from this IP address) Hi. I took another look at the link, but if anything it nly confirmed my initial impression of the site. Here's what stood out for me:

  • Under "New Content" first item "I'm an American" - Poem; second item A different World" - digital narrative about foreign students at Bloomington University in the USA
  • Under "Editor's Choice" - "Interviewing Professor Nkiru Nzegwu", an interview with a (presumably) African born associate professor at a New York university; second item "When I left the States I was Angry"
  • On the menu bar - "HIP-HOP" an entire section (one of only 7) which seems to have no connection to Africa at all, other than the fact that it was invented by and is dominated by people of African decent. "RACISM" - which appears to document racism experienced by Binghampton University students and staff.

I'm not saying the website isn't good. But we have lots of links to choose from and as a link for readers of an article on the continent of Africa it seems too focused on the experience of people of African decent in the USA. There are several other US university sites that concentrate more on Africa and less on the African experience in America. There may be other articles that the site is more appropriate for. And there may be sections of the site that are appropriate for the Africa article. But please remember that Wikipedia is not a portal. We don't simply list all the links that are relevant to an article. We're looking for a focused selection of the best links that give the reader a way to engage in the subject of the article (not related subjects) in more depth than the article can provide. --Siobhan Hansa 13:33, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
