From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome, 69.121.146.83!

I noticed your work on List of computer pranks, and thought I'd welcome you to Wikipedia. My name is Dan, a.k.a. TheJabberwock. Thank you for your contributions, and I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username by clicking sign up. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and has many benefits. As a registered user, you gain the use of an appropriate username of your choice, a personal watchlist to which you can add articles that interest you, the ability to start new pages, and much more. Also, your IP address, 69.121.146.83, will no longer be visible to other users.
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Thanks again for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian.

[edit] ABS spam

I reverted your removal of the "spam," because it was added (by me) in good faith as a way to aviod going into detail about each prank. Instead, the link offers pranks that may have been missed. But I appreciate your idea, and I'd like to ask you to visit Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam, which combats spam on Wikipedia. TheJabberwʘck 02:39, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see. There are a few differences between monkeydoo.com and ABs. First, ABs is probably the most notable of such websites, or maybe second to eBaum's World. It gets http://www.google.com/search?hs=zoj&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=%22albinoblacksheep.com%22&btnG=Search over 500,000] results on Google, as compared to less than 20,000 for monkeydoo. Thus, we would rather use ABs as the external link, since it is the "leader" in the field.
Also, most of the ABs links referenced specific pranks already in the article. You'll notice that List of computer pranks actually does contain a link to MonkeyDoo, since the "Ring" prank is described in the article. Similarly, Computer prank contains link to the pranks referenced in it.
Finally, we've had a spam problem from monkeydoo.com. Lots of people try to readd the links, completely unnecessarily, and the site is now looked at suspiciously. In contrast, we've never had an ABs problem.
Thanks for your reply. TheJabberwʘck 19:18, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
