Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. [edit] Michelle Obama

You're new to Wikipedia, but one of our core guidelines is that we assume good faith with one another. You did not really do this with me in you comment on my talk page here. I'm not "trying to make her look good and protect the campaign" so assuming (or even suggesting) that I am without engaging me in a more civil fashion first was not the best move, but as you are probably not familiar with Wiki policies and guidelines it's not a big deal.

So here's why I did remove it--it's clearly a non-story. The guy they hit went into the hospital but was then released--he seems to be completely fine. It actually appears to be the fault of the motorcyclist as he was passing cars quickly and hit the van. His friend said of the motorcyclist "He got in a little bit of a hurry and tried to go around everybody," said Mark Kellar, a friend of Emerson's riding another motorcycle. "I didn't believe he was going that way at an intersection. He went around two other cars that he shouldn't have." M. Obama was not driving the car that hit him, and there's no signs of legal charges, serious injury, or anything like that. Right now it's a one-off news story, but if that changes we could add more later.

In other words, your comparison to Chappaquiddick is utterly absurd. We don't write a paragraph every time a living person is in a fairly minor accident, so right now it makes no sense to include the material you added. My rationale is not political, it's about Wikipedia policies and practices and writing a good encyclopedia.

I would add that you'll probably get farther here if you don't paint yourself as some crusader out to rid Wikipedia of systemic left wing bias as you do in this edit. You seem (by your own admission) to have a strong POV to push and folks often react negatively to that regardless of which side of the political spectrum you come from. You should know that for every hundred editors who believe Wikipedia skews to the left, there are another hundred who believe it skews to the right. No one's going to win that argument any time soon.--Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 20:36, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but your last post on my talk page makes it difficult or impossible to take you seriously. If you actually believe that the Washington Post story cited above somehow "made up" the quote from the friend then I guess there is no convincing you of anything. You will obviously believe what you want to believe which is of course your prerogative. I apply to Karl Rove the same standard for inclusion of any material as I do to either of the Obamas or any other liberal (incidentally I'm not even a liberal)--though I'm sure you will not believe me when I say that. Comparing Wikipedia's so-called bias to apartheid is deeply offensive (and unbelievably off the mark), and claiming that my statement that many feel Wikipedia skews to the right (which is simply a fact) is akin to Ahmadinejad saying Iran has no gays is also utterly beyond the pale. If you want to discuss the article further please do so on the article talk page. I ask that you not post on my talk page anymore, which is of course my prerogative, thanks.--Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 16:42, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Again, I'm happy to discuss the issue further with you on the Michelle Obama talk page, but you don't seem too interested in that, instead merely posting another completely non-constructive comment on my talk page. Let me assure that I have respect for your political beliefs (which I assume are conservative). Most of my family is conservative and I certainly have respect for them. I am indeed not a liberal, but rather am significantly to the left of traditional American liberalism (although many Americans forget this, there are far more political beliefs than "liberal", "conservative," and "moderate"). As such Obama is not a particularly appealing candidate for me, nor are any of the other Democrats or Republicans. It's of course your right to believe you have been the victim of "Jim Crow Era treatment" and "apartheid" like behavior on Wikipedia, but pardon me if such complaints cause me to not take too you seriously. I hope your next edit is an actual contribution to an article, not a snide comment on a user talk page. Happy editing.--Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 22:52, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk: Michael Savage (commentator) are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. Gamaliel (Angry Mastodon!
