[edit] External links

Your edits: [1], [2], [3], [4]

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thanks. Please stop adding commercial links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. Neil916 15:24, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Neil916 07:28, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

You need to let the experts handle the fishing categories. Who is the person directly above you that would have more authority on Wikipedia? Well I would like to speak with the person above him. Please place me in contact with this individual. By the way those are some really pwetty fishy pictures you have uploaded but a tropical fish hobby is far from an authority on fishing.

If you dispute the validity of my reverts to your edits and my warnings listed above, the Wikipedia article Wikipedia:Resolving disputes outlines the procedures for "going over my head", so to speak, although it's more of a peer review process than a "person directly above you that would have more authority on Wikipedia" situation. Also, I have addressed your question of why your links are being removed in the section below this. Neil916 07:28, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not Spam

My site sells nothing, hardly commercial. And since you really don't know fishing from first base - NO OFFENSE, I think I am the authority on the subject as I have over 40 years experience in all pases of commercial and recreational sport fishing. So young fella I have followed your advice and linked to a specific page about a specific subject. Fishing lure knowledge. It isn't as if I count on this site for traffic considering I had 2 hits in 3 weeks and they were both by you. But I appreciate your interest. And by the way I have added quite a bit of information to the site but you wouldn't know it because i just changed cable services and my ip has changed.

I am reverting your additions of the link to your website because they violate the following sections of The Wikipedia guide to external links:
  1. Section 1, In general, any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article here would have once it becomes an example of brilliant prose.
  2. Section 3, A website that you own or maintain, even if the guidelines above imply that it should be linked to. This is because of neutrality and point-of-view concerns; neutrality is an important objective at Wikipedia, and a difficult one. If it is relevant and informative, mention it on the talk page and let other — neutral — Wikipedia editors decide whether to add the link.
  3. Section 4, Links that are added to promote a site, that primarily exist to sell products or services, with objectionable amounts of advertising, or that that require payment to view the relevant content.
  4. Section 9, Blogs, social networking sites (such as MySpace) and forums should generally not be linked to. However, there are exceptions, such as in cases where the article is about, or closely related to, the website itself, or where the website is of a particularly high standard.
Please review the following suggestions for ideas of how you can help contribute to Wikipedia without having your edits reverted in the future: Wikipedia:Spam#How not to be a spammer.
Finally, in light of your recent comments and edit summaries ([8], [9], and [10]). I'd like to offer a friendly suggestion to review the following article: Wikipedia:No personal attacks before things get out of hand.
Thank you for your understanding. Neil916 07:28, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your comment on my talk page

Joe, should I interpret the note you left on my talk page as a threat? This "face to face sport fishing discussion" you refer to sounds rather menacing, especially as I'm not much of a fisherman. Neil916 06:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites that you are affiliated with, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Bass fishing. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. The reason I added the warning is because almost all your edits are adding a handful of websites to fishing articles. Corpx 04:04, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

I know external links are nofollow now. It is still considered spam to add an actual informational link that happens to be on a commercial site?
Obviously if I know it's a nofollow I am not posting a link looking for benefits of linking to an authority site or PR help - that's what spammers are looking for. It certainly isn't for click through traffic, there really is no future in relying on that. The main reason really is to give the anglers something they are actually looking for, use your logic man and common sense - don't over analyze.
Since everything is nofollow now Wiki should consider being a bit more flexible on some of the resources they will accept. I am making an assumption but you probably aren't the outdoors type so you wouldn't know that an up-to-date fishing report is a resource in great demand by anglers that fish for all species, bass or other. Just a thought.
I won't post again but I sure get a little discouraged when I see other commercial sites sit up there for days on end that are nearly identical to a few of my sites. Not counting ESPN, did not mean to delete that really in my haste.
You have a nice weekend. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.10.139.87 (talk) 04:26, 27 January 2007 (UTC).

I had looked at your discussion page here and it seems like the a lot of other people also thought your links might not be suitable for wikipedia. The best way before adding what might be considered controversial is to discuss it on the discussion page. People browsing these pages will be much more informed about the validity that people that are just checking the recent changes. Corpx 14:59, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Some of your recent edits, such as those you made to Bass fishing, have been considered unhelpful or unconstructive and have been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.

Dude you are just too fast. That little edit was not 20 seconds old. You must have an auto vandalism script or something. I was simply showing a fellow bass angler how to edit and or add to the article. But you, Marshall Dillon of Wiki was just to quick on the draw. It was not vandalism at all - I thought I reverted the page back myself until I saw your edit. I always wonder what type of person wastes their life on a site like Wiki. It is obvious you are obsessed but that's OK we all have our vices. Mine is big tits.
