Well, I am sorry about the misunderstanding of what you do here.

I guess you will be deleting a lot of the current content from the Green Chemistry Page then. Or do all these Organizations PAY for the right to advertise on Wikipedia?

You have a link to Archer Daniels Midland “ADM also provides agricultural storage and transportation services. Company divisions include: ADM Cocoa, ADM Corn Processing, ADM Specialty Food Ingredients Food Additives, Lecithin, Protein, ADM Milling, ADM Natural Health & Nutrition Vitamin E & Sterols, ADM Food Oils. The American River Transportation Company along with ADM Trucking, Inc are subsidiaries of ADM. ADM's revenues for fiscal 2007 (ending June 30, 2007) were US $44 billion.” , and a link to their website.

Likewise Cargill and Dow.

You have on that page a link to Wal-Mart and onward to their web site.

You are advertising for China Clean Energy on that page. They are selling their Chemicals from that page, as follows: • Monomer Acid • Stearic • Dimer Acid • Printing Inks • Dimer-Based Polyamide Hot Melt Adhesives • Low Molecular Weight Liquor Polyamide Resin • High Performance Polyamide Hot-melt Adhesive • Alcohol-Soluble Polyamide Resins • Benzene-Soluble Polyamide Resins • Biodiesel & Bio Heating Fuel

You are advertising for Rand who is selling “Next Generation Environmental Technologies” from that page.

You are also advertising for a number of major universities who are selling educational programs.

This is a little hypocritical, don’t you think? I could go on with the other pages, too. Most of your postings are from people who are selling something.

  • You were promoting your own business in several articles. You added a biography section about yourself into the Richard Hourigan article. You added your own website into many articles External Link sections. Wikipedia is not the place to write your own personal biography or to promote your business. The links you are talking about are not advertised within the different articles on Wikipedia and if they are you can remove them, the same way yours were removed. You are a retired SF Lieutenant Colonel. If Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hourigan meets the notability criteria WP:BIO, you can create an article about him. What you can't do is put links to your website into articles just to promote your business. Outdawg (talk) 21:07, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

"The links you are talking about are not advertised within the different articles on Wikipedia and if they are you can remove them, the same way yours were removed."

So what you are telling me is that I AM authorized to go in there and remove the links from that Chinese Company, The Rand Corporation, and Wal-Mart? How do I know if I have gone too far? Would removing references to ADM or Dow Chemical or some of the Universities be over the top? This sounds arbitrary to me. At that rate if I had the time and the inclination (which I don't, BTW), then I could remove 30% - 40% of everything that is on Wikipedia.

  • Using websites of businesses and universities as references for verification of content in an article is totally different from adding links to an articles reference section solely to promote your own business. Like I said before, if content is being added just to promote a business you as an editor have the right to remove it. Outdawg (talk) 16:35, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] April 2008

Please stop. If you continue to add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Green chemistry, you will be blocked from editing. Outdawg (talk) 02:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to United States Special Operations Command. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Outdawg (talk) 02:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
