The WHOIS box
This is a standard template added to talk pages of IP addresses which is used for easy reference of who an IP address is registered too by any user. It is not a warning, it is not for you personally; so please do not remove it. This is a user talk page of an IP address, not you personally. If you wish to have privacy and more control over the use of the user talk page you are associated with please register an account. Thanks. Camaron | Chris (talk) 15:31, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- So, let's see, the box says:
- - The IP address is registered to Earthlink.
- - Report abuse or vandalism to Earthlink.
- - Earthlink knows who is using the address.
- - Contact an admin to report inappropriate conduct from this IP.
- Thanks for the 411. Maybe you can put another dialog up that says accessing Wikipedia means one is also using the internet.65.87.184.50 (talk) 17:25, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

- If you wish to comment on the content of the template go to Template talk:Whois. To many people, the content of that template is not obvious - I don't know what every individual IP address in the world is registered too. So if I come across another IP user talk page with that template - I will know instantly who it is registered to without the need to check. In answer to your question no, as accessing Wikipedia does not necessarily mean accessing the internet, see Wikipedia:1.0. Camaron | Chris (talk) 18:12, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Usage of this IP
I have just reviewed the contributions of this IP address I am quite suspicious that this IP address has/is been used for block evasion by Tss8071 (talk · contribs). Editing habits are similar, style of comments are also very similar. For example [1] This is why wikipedia does not work I have seen similar comments before from Tss8071. The most substantial evidence - this IP address is in a very close to others used by him/her, with two others being in the 65.87.18*.** range. This could be unusual coincidence, but the evidence is there. Hence I am adding a sockpuppet tag as well, please do not remove it until this is resolved. - In that case, feel free to block this IP. Not sure why such sillyness goes on here. I thought you wrote on your talk page that you are a busy guy and yet you have the time to guess who is using/has used an IP and write multi-line paragraphs about it plus a literal style analysis. Since you do have the time for all this sillyness, rather than threaten, carry out the threat. It saves a lot of steps. See? Life is easy, block and move on. Also, show me how to turn off the 'you have new messages' notification. This game has become boring real fast. I am no longer interested in your literal analysis and/or thoughts on any subject.65.87.184.50 (talk) 19:16, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
I have concluded, upon further research, that the evidence is solid enough for a block. If the user of this IP address is willing to co-operate to help resolve this, other options can be considered, but the above response tells me this will not happen. I will notify Dreadstar (talk · contribs), the blocking admin of Tss8071, of this block. Camaron | Chris (talk) 19:42, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- In your evidence, you said:
- - Close IP Range with 65.87.18*.*
- - Literary evidence suggest tss8071
- - Evidence is solid.
- The block is for 1 month. In 1 month, the evidence you have gathered will reamin the same. In one year it will be the same but you block for 1 month. You are very confusing. BTW, while I am sure it is fun to suggest that something sinister has been found, a person does not have a choice, when the computer is turned on, what the IP address will be.65.87.184.50 (talk) 22:29, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

- I did not realize you thought I was mercster also, seems I get around a lot.65.87.184.50 (talk) 22:38, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

- Anyone else? I want to show others. Thanks for the humor. When I next turn on my pc, I will be sure to post the IP here so you can block it as well.65.87.184.50 (talk) 23:08, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

- IP addresses should not be blocked indefinitely as they can change hands - though this one clearly has stuck with one person in at least it's recent history. I have never mentioned this IP having any relation to Mercster, s/he and tss8071 disagreed and engaged in edit warring with each other, which makes them been the same user unlikely, unless one person fought an edit war with themselves. Either contest the block with the {{unblock}} template, or make your case for how the evidence is wrong and I will consider it. If all you are going to do is use this talk page for general harassment - then I will not hesitate to protect it. Camaron | Chris (talk) 09:08, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

- I told you, don't threaten, just do it, of course, I'll have no place to post my new IP. Such a long response for such a petty issue. You remind of the guy I knew in the military who spent his entire day trying to figure out who took three teaspoons of cream for their coffee instead of two.65.87.184.50 (talk) 16:37, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

- Here are two other pieces of facts for you:
- 1. Users do not have a choice as to what IP they are assigned, hence the name 'dynamic' ip addressing. It could change from day to day or not for a year. Some people keep their computers turned on 24/7, others do not. The ones who do not keep their computer turned on 24/7 are more likely to have changing ip's.
- 2. When using an account, a user logs in, edits, then comes back later. The top part of the screen indicates the user is still logged in but when an edit is done and the four tildes are typed, the ip address appears. It gets tired real fast trying to sync what the web page says with the reality (logged or not logged in). Then someone yells sockpuppet.

- While I am sure it is fun to suggest that their are sinister people out there who spend their time trying to evade blocks, the reality is most people do not care because it is petty. Sorry to disappoint you on that but there is no evil empire of 'blocked ip evaders'.

- Lastly, this started with you posting the template and trying to be a policeman, hard nose. Mama always said, if you don't start nothing, there won't be nothing. I have no intention of protesting nor in any shape or form contesting the contents of dialog boxes or your suspicions. What you do is what you do, it does not affect me in the slightest other than no editing. Have a nice day. Got to go.65.87.184.50 (talk) 17:32, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

- I did not know that you were in HS but it explains the pettyness and immaturity I see here.
- . . . therefore keep the block in place. I have no desire to interact with HS kids nor their friends.
- The attempt here is to divorce opinions from the person giving those opinions, aka hiding behind WP rules (some of them), but no 'body of rules' can make a person more mature.
- This has been tried before, in different contexts, but the results are the same. I did not understand why there is so much pettyness and juvenile responses here but admins that are highschool kids explains it.
- Go join the marines, travel the world, get a college diploma, work ten years in a company, then maybe you will have some maturity. Until then . . . bye.
- ps If I wanted to be disciplined by HS children then I would put my kids in charge of the house.65.87.184.50 (talk) 00:18, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- IP address re-blocked for three months as IP clearly is not changing hands, and page protected as this user has indicated themselves that they have no desire to interact constructively with above comment, which was also an original personal attack made as soon as previous protection expires. This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
