Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. See the welcome page to learn more. Thanks. Vsmith 11:13, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Please stop adding commercial links to Wikipedia, as you did in Borassus. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. --AbsolutDan (talk) 03:29, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello Roger,
The primary reason I removed the link to your website was because it was "spammed bare" across many articles. The links do not serve as a citation for any of the text in the articles, and the same link was added to many articles. See WP:SPAM (particularly the how not to be a spammer section) for a more detailed explanation of what triggered my "spam radar" in this case.
While I applaud your efforts to create your own project to provide informative content, Wikipedia is not the place to promote other sites. It is generally frowned upon to add links to sites that you run or maintain. See point 11 under Links to normally avoid in the external links guideline. As Wikipedia is aiming for a print version, external links are far less helpful to the site than content.
In looking at your edit history, I do see a handful of other edits, but it seems that the vast majority have been solely to add links to your site. When spam fighters such as myself try to determine the motives for a link addition, we often check the history of the editor. If all or most of what we see is link addition, it sets off our "spam radar" per above. If you have made other edits that are not appearing in your edit history, perhaps your IP address has changed. To ensure that your edits appear in one place, and to add more weight to your editing, I highly recommend creating an account.
I completely understand your desire to retain credit for your efforts, and that you're concerned about your work going uncredited if you upload it to Wikipedia. It's your work, and you're entitled to do whatever you'd like with it! You can, however, provide your content to Wikipedia and still require that you be attributed in any use of the material by using one of the Creative Commons Licenses (the "Attribution (by) license).
If you still feel strongly about adding links to your site to certain Wikipedia articles, use the article's talk page. Mentioning your link on an article's talk page allows regular editors of the article to discuss the value of the link. Then, if everyone agrees that it's useful, you have the weight of consensus to back the link addition.
I hope this helps explain my reasoning for the link removal. I also hope that you look into the Creative Commons licensing, find the terms of that license acceptable, and decide to upload your work here. Please let me know if you have any other concerns or questions --AbsolutDan (talk) 18:09, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
