[edit] February 2008
Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Moby-Dick, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. - I'm working on it right now. It was full of wrong information. Can I finish before I get reverted or am I wasting my time?
[edit] Help if you want it
I offer you some help with your edits to Moby-Dick and other articles if you would like it.--Father Goose (talk) 02:52, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- How do you undo, Father Goose? Yes I could use some help, thanks. New to this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Red1001802 (talk • contribs) 05:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- I'll give you a few basic tips first. I rearranged your talk page here a little bit -- the way talk pages are normally formatted is when you are replying to someone, your reply goes below theirs, indented one level. Colons at the beginning of the line produce indents. You add an additional colon for each reply, which produces an extra level of indenting. More details about this at Wikipedia:Talk page.
-
- When posting something to a talk page, type four tildes at the end of your post: ~~~~ , or hit the signature-looking button to the right of the crossed-out W in the toolbar above, which does the same thing. That will add a signature to your post so people can see who typed what. Don't sign edits to article pages, however.
-
- Apparently you've registered an account, Red1001802; it's not a bad idea to sign in with it every time you make an edit. People tend to regard edits done by IP addresses with suspicion. Putting something on your user page (User:Red1001802) will make your name appear blue, further reducing people's suspicions.
-
- The various ways to undo are detailed at Help:Reverting. "Undo" is usually a link you can click when viewing the "history" of a page (see the tab above).
-
- When people are reverting your stuff, click on the "discussion" tab at the top of the article where they are reverting you and add a new section to the talk page (click on the + tab you see there), asking why you were reverted. You can explain what you were trying to do with your edits, and most reasonable editors will respond within a day or so. (Not all editors are reasonable, but that's a different story.) When replying to them, you can click on the [edit] button beside the section heading to edit only that section (not the whole page), which is much more convenient.
-
- If you have any other technical or etiquette questions, let me know.--Father Goose (talk) 07:02, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Somehow you corrupted article code
In this edit, somehow, you corrupted all interlanguage links containing non-Latin characters. I have fixed this, but perhaps you ought to look into what caused this. __meco (talk) 07:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
(That generally happens when you cut & paste an article into an editor that doesn't handle Unicode properly.)--Father Goose (talk) 09:51, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Meco, Father Goose, sorry, I did a cut and paste. If I keep it in text mode will that avoid the problem? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.78.108.234 (talk) 18:18, March 4, 2008 (UTC)
- If by that you mean doing all your editing in the onsite box, yes, that will leave the Unicode intact. You can also avoid the problem by cutting&pasting only part of the article -- leave any section with funny characters intact when you're pasting your rewrite over other sections.--Father Goose (talk) 20:09, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] To Father Goose
Hey, FG, thanks for that link to the Time article from 52. That was interesting! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.78.108.234 (talk) 21:31, March 7, 2008 (UTC)
[edit] June 2008
Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to Émile Étienne Guimet has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
