[edit] Rigism

Thank you for contributing a concise overview of the religion including the traditions, history, structure, and oppossing viewpoints. If only other relgions -- say Hinduism -- could follow your example. However, I am going to request this article be speedily deleted pursuant to our policy on recreated articles that were previously disposed of via VFD.

One of the central tenets of Wikipedia is verifiability. If the joke/organization/practice is limited to a small audience then only those at the inner core may participate in editing. Wikipedia works because most content can be easily checked and edited by any random user that looks into the matter.

I am copying and pasting your contribution which you can hopefully make use of somehow else:

Rigism is a religion created by enthusiastic fans of the PC game Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, which received unusual negative reviews, including a 1.0 from GameSpot [1]. The religion advocates the adoration of Big Rigs and other videogames believed to be of similar quality. Members of Rigism believe that gaming websites and the general media rated Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing in an unfair manner and failed to listen to different viewpoints on the game. According to Rigism, there are three types of people in the world: WINNERs who believe Big Rigs is a good game, LOSERs who believe the negative publicity attached to the game, and NOT WINNERs who have not heard of the software and thus cannot judge it.

[edit] History

Rigism originated in a GameFAQs post by user Cirus206 in early 2005. Calling himself "The Benevolent Rigist," the user created multiple positions which he distributed based on the order of applications. The current title of members of Rigism are:

  • The Benevolent Rigist (Leader of Rigism; currently Cirus206).
  • High Rigists (Above-average Rigists; usually members that have been fans of the game for a long time and post frequently on the GameFAQs message boards).
  • Saints of the Golden Rig (Big Rigs Fans that no longer post on GameFAQs, or characters from games similar to Big Rigs, such as Shaq Fu).
  • Rigists (Common members of Rigism; however, it may refer to any member of the religion).
  • Chief Philosopher of Rigism (Head Rigism Philosopher).
  • Rigism Philosophers (Members that analyze the philosophical aspects of Rigism).
  • Spreaders of the Rig (Missionaries sent to spread the message of Rigism).
  • Defenders of the Faith (Members who protect message boards from anyone considered intrusive).

[edit] The Book of Rigism

After the inception of Rigism, members of the religion wrote the Book of Rigism. The book provides provides Rigists with the rules of Rigism, and it details the story of the game's creator, Stellar Stone LLC, and the game's distributor, GameMill Publishing. The Book of Rigism is currently in its fourth edition. Rigists allow any member to add passages to the Book of Rigism, but it must first be approved by high-ranking members of the religion. [2]

[edit] Teachings of Rigism

  • Everyone is WINNER until proven LOSER.
  • You do not need to denounce your original faith in order to become a Rigist.
  • Level 4 is to be kept secret within WINNERs.
  • Violence is not the answer, unless it is against a LOSER (gs)er.
  • YOU´RE WINNER!

[edit] The Supreme Council of WINNER

As the need for defining objects under Rigism increased, members of the religion established The Supreme Council of WINNER, a group made up of high-ranking members of Rigism. The role of the Council is to decide whether an object is "WINNER" or "LOSER." The Supreme Council of WINNER meets everytime the state of an object is put in doubt.

The Council bases its decisions on three materials: The Book of Rigism, popular concensus on the object amongst Rigists, and personal opinion. They cannot, however, change the state of several objects, such as Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, which is constantly decreed as "WINNER." Every decision made by The Supreme Council of WINNER is final unless noted otherwise.

Although The Council was established to settle disputes amongst Rigist, doubts remain over the true definition of WINNER (See: Controversy)

[edit] Rigism-Protesters

Rigism-Protesters claim that the religion is a cult bordering on Paganism, and that Christians cannot be Rigists. To counter this, members of Rigism remind Rigism-Protesters that The Book of Rigism states no one needs to denounce their official religion to become a member and that most Rigists are Christians. [3]

[edit] Definition of WINNER

Although a WINNER refers to a person who acknowledges the Rigist-held belief that Big Rigs is a great videogame and shuns the negative press the software received, the term has never been fully defined. For example, in late July 2005, a GameFAQs user stated that he could be WINNER as long as he preferred games considered by Rigists have Big Rig's quality, such as Shaq Fu or E.T., but not Big Rigs itself. After confronted by members of The Supreme Council of WINNER, the user stated that he was still WINNER because even though he preferred other games, the user considered Big Rigs a great game. This statement led The Council to rule in favor of the user, stating that WINNERness may be achieved without preferring Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing above all other videogames of similar quality.
