Please stop adding to the article of every signatory of this petition that they have signed the petition. The petition might be notable, but it is not notable with respect to each person's biographies. --Allen 18:54, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Is this an official policy, or simply your own opinion? When a person of public renown signs a statement attacking an authoritarian regime as fascistic, that is a VERY notable element of his or her biography.

No, it's not. People sign a lot of petitions. However, this is indeed just my opinion, and since you disagree, I'll stop reverting your edits for now. --Allen 19:01, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

It's not a petition. It's a challenge. It's a demand that the President resign. Have you even read the statement?

I hadn't read it when I made my comment above. Now I have. I still don't believe that adding one's name to the list constitutes a notable part of one's life. But you clearly disagree, and perhaps others will as well, so I won't try to stand in your way any more unless a consensus develops one way or the other regarding whether your additions are notable. --Allen 19:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No link spam!

Having signed a petition is not notable for people who are notable for other reasons, and who moreover have mostly signed hundreds of political petitions during their lives. An article on the petition itself is fine... but not vandalizing the biographies of every alleged signatory. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 08:51, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

So let's see, it's your position that an article about an activist, Bonpane, which stops at 1983, is spammed and vandalized by a one-line entry that speaks of his 2005-2006 activities? How can you possibly justify that? 63.199.155.82 08:58, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you.

What nonsense have I added? John Sayles stops at 1997. You think signing a statement comparing the President to Hitler is not a noteworthy achievement? It's not a petition. It's a statement and a call to action. It could very likely have major effects on the careers of everyone who signs it.

[edit] WCW petition

The addition is probably notable IMO, but definitely doesn't deserve a lengthy description of the content of the petition, or the addition of a link to the WCW website under External links. Wikipedia is not a link farm. Kalkin 22:04, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

I can certainly understand the concern about the potential for abuse, and the concern about setting a precedent. It seems to me that when a group of people as noteworthy as the signatories to the WorldCantWait call are willing to stick their necks out and sign on to something as aggressive and bold as that, it's worth describing the nature of the document and providing a link so readers can see who else has signed it.

What about this idea: the text of the call and the list of its signatories goes on The World Cant Wait wikipedia page, and we link to that?

I think that's a much better idea. Or, the whole text of the call shouldn't go on the WCW page if it's longer than a paragraph, but a paragraph worth of excerpts from it could along with a link to the full text. The list of signatories would be perfectly appropriate there, too. It could even have a separate page List of signatories of WCW's call to action or something, although that might be excessive - you might want to look at the guidelines for lists first; there's a WP:Help page on them, I believe. [edit] Stop the linkspam!

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

If you want to create a page for "list of signatories of ..." that's perfectly fine. Signing one petition out of the hundreds of petitions each of the figures has done is non-notable. Moreover, even if it was notable, a link to an external source rather than to the WP article is blatant advertising. You're welcome to call the signatures a "statement" rather than a "petition" if you like... though I think you should look up those words since you're imagining a distinction that doesn't exist. If you keep doing this, you will be blocked. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 18:52, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't need to look up those words to know that a "petition" is a request that someone do something, while a "statement" is a declaration. Supporting a petition I agree is a trivial act. Signing a declaration of principles, particularly one that compares the President to Hitler and calls for him to be driven from office, is courageous and potentially career-threatening and thus noteworthy.

If you want to make your threats credible, maybe you should sign your name. 63.199.155.82 16:44, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

You didn't revise your failure to distinguish between a petition and a statement. 63.199.155.82 06:56, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
