[edit] This Catastrophe
The problem is, Wikipedia is not a sopabox, or a free advertising service. Wikipedia is not for promoting anything, an "up and coming band" or anything else. People try to add advertising on Wikipedia all the time, and we have policies and guidelines to help us sort out what belongs here and what doesn't. That's what WP:MUSIC (the guideline regarding bands) is all about. Mangojuicetalk 18:22, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- Don't take it hard! That's the kind of mistake a lot of users make when they first start editing Wikipedia. Anyway, deletion isn't just my decision: the article is up for debate, as it says at the top of the article. If you want to participate in that debate you can, but the kind of things you've been saying aren't going to change anyone's mind, I'm sorry to say. Mangojuicetalk 20:35, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

- Like I said, don't take it personally. There are editors that genuinely piss me off on Wikipedia, because they are here just to cause trouble. Editors like you don't. Everyone was a newbie once! Of course, it would be unlikely that you'd know all about Wikipedia policies before you started editing, so it's no big deal if you weren't aware of them. Basically speaking, while Wikipedia is not paper, the concept of it as an encyclopedia has certain consequences. First and foremost of these is verifiability -- we don't include information on the basis of its truth, but rather on the basis of that information being backed up by previously published material. (That's the main, probably unsurmountable problem with having an article on This Catastrophe -- there is just barely anything written about them that's in any way reliable.) Also, there's a policy called What Wikipedia is not that describes some of the boundaries on what we can cover. If you want to see a good presentation on the basics of what Wikipedia is really about, check out the five pillars of Wikipedia. Mangojuicetalk 20:51, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

- At the end of the debate, an independent admin will examine the debate and determine the outcome. It's not a vote, it's a debate: if someone makes a good argument why the article should stay that might be enough to win the debate. Wikipedia policies are the most important factor, and community consensus is next after that. See Wikipedia:Deletion process for more on how the process works. Oh, and if you do participate, it's best to sign your comments by putting "~~~~" at the end of them. Mangojuicetalk 20:51, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
