Description

Close-up of a nearly complete glyptodont shell (Glyptotherium texanum). Glyptodonts, close cousins of armadillos, are the only mammal known to have a hard, inflexible, turtle-like shell; they became extinct at the end of the Ice Age, about 12,000 years ago.
