The 53rd Street Tunnel carries the IND Queens Boulevard Line (currently the E and V trains) of the New York City Subway under the East River and Roosevelt Island between Manhattan and Queens, New York City.
The tunnel begins under 53rd Street in Manhattan and runs under the East River to 50th Avenue in Queens. Although it passes under Roosevelt Island, there is no station stop in this tunnel. It carries the Queens Boulevard Line, feeding from the IND Eighth Avenue and Sixth Avenue lines, to Long Island City, where it meets trains from the BMT 60th Street Tunnel Connection and the IND Crosstown Line west of Queens Plaza station.
Prior to the completion of the 63rd Street-Queens Boulevard Connection on December 16, 2001, the E and F trains traveled through the 53rd Street Tunnel.
