[edit] Comment

Hi. Can I ask who you are? You don't have to answer this question if you don't want to. You can even blank this message for all I care... Power level (Dragon Ball) 21:07, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Not sure how to answer that question, what do you want to know about me? Who are you?! 4kinnel 20:10, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I meant, were you a user that edited Wikipedia in the past with another account? I think I remember... perhaps you remember me? Power level (Dragon Ball) 20:46, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
No, I have used wikipedia for reference for yonks but not actually had an account until this one.4kinnel 23:02, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Can I ask you how ya know my friend Deskana? Power level (Dragon Ball) 04:05, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't know him!4kinnel 19:37, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Then what made you come to the conclusion that he was a good administrator?! Huh?! Power level (Dragon Ball) 01:54, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
skim reading through his talk archive, I've already said that. I think you need to get over this and move on. 4kinnel 09:45, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Okay then, bye! Power level (Dragon Ball) 19:16, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beata Brookes

I have reverted your change to Beata Brookes, and to be honest I can't understand your objection. The nickname is genuine and a reference for it is given. The fact that this phrase has not been reported anywhere on the internet does not mean that it is nonexistent, nor even that it is not worth reporting. It is not a surprise that information about someone whose active political career ended in 1989 is not to be found online. However, some examples of its use:

AND in Wales, the Stalking Horse's Stalking Horse is cantering again. Beata Brookes unsuccessfully challenged Sir Anthony Meyer's candidature for Clwyd North West, after he had the affrontery to challenge Mrs Thatcher's party leadership. She has just been selected as chair of the Welsh Conservative Party, and on local radio yesterday insisted the Tories didn't do all that badly on Thursday. Miss Brookes is known as the Celtic Iron Lady: nobody had the nerve to challenge this singular view, never mind point out that in Wales, even without elections this year, her party holds fewer county council seats than either the Lib-Dems or the Welsh Nats. In Stalking Horse days the Diary was ungallant enough to note the fascinating variations in her age through successive political directories. I wouldn't dream of returning to this, and will instead pass on the terror of a local photographer, who found herself trying to escape from the Brookes drawing room, entirely painted Tory blue, walls, door, the lot. If she hadn't spotted the glint of a doorknob she'd be in there still, she recalled, shuddering.

  • Maev Kennedy, Diary, The Guardian, 11 May 1993.

In a three-way clash, Sir Anthony Meyer was preferred over Ms Beata Brookes (known as the "Celtic Iron Lady") and Morgan, whose claim to be considered for nomination was ruled out of order. As he left the hotel he said with customary dignity: "I don't mind being beaten as long as I am beaten fairly."

  • Tony Heath, "Obituary: Geraint Morgan, The Independent, 8 July 1995.

I think it's also a bit difficult, when the article has gone on Do You Know?, to remove from it the 'hook' which is on the Main page. Sam Blacketer 17:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

What you seem to be saying there is "let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story". WP:V.4kinnel 17:48, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I have reverted your second change, given the quality of the sources that are being offered. Are you saying that the extracts quoted above did not appear in those newspapers? Or that they are misquoted? Or irrelevant, perhaps?
The fact that a fact does not appear anywhere on the internet (at least, as far as your search engine of choice is aware) does not make it untrue (quite often the reverse). -- ALoan (Talk) 18:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Read WP:V carefully, the quotes you have listed are not verifiable by the reader. Please stop adding unverifiable quotes. 4kinnel 18:40, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Are you telling me that you think Sam Blacketer is making it up? It is in a printed source! Go and find a copy at your nearest library with a newspaper archive. -- ALoan (Talk) 18:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I ought to add, by the way, that you are in grave danger of falling foul of the three revert rule. Perhaps you would like to discuss why you object to this fact appearing in the article on its talk page. -- ALoan (Talk) 18:49, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
You are wrong. I am in no danger of doing that. I object to this 'fact' being on the page because there is no verifiable source for it. 4kinnel 19:22, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Peppers

Look, in order for consideration about recreation of Peppers you need to do one simple thing- present multiple, non-trivial, independent reliable sources. JoshuaZ 21:42, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

and we both know its never going to happen, Jimbo would lose face.4kinnel 21:43, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Look, I am to be blunt, a fairly well respected admin, and if you could convince me that would go a long way to getting what you want. And the way to convince me is to present at least two non-trivial, independent reliable sources. JoshuaZ 21:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My concern about your username (4kinnel)

Hello, 4kinnel, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

When pronounced, your username sounds like the expletive "Fucking hell", contravening the 'offensive language' provisions of WP:U.

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

  • If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
  • If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
  • If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- Sam Blacketer 22:28, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

OK, how can I help you? 4kinnel 22:31, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Hold on, sorry I only read the last paragraph, I will get back to you on this shortly 4kinnel 22:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
ok, yes I do see what you are getting at. Kinnel is my surname, it is quite common in the part of the world where I live. It is pronounced with the emphais on KIN to rhyme with ginnel so it does not sound like the phrase you have alluded to. I picked the number 4 because it is my lucky number, the reasons for which are personal. I hope this reasures you. 4kinnel 22:40, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
What's a ginnel? Sam Blacketer 22:48, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
haha! You are obviously not a yorkshireman!4kinnel 22:49, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trolling at User talk:TonyTheTiger

I strongly suggest you withdraw your remarks about Tony's username or further action may have to be taken. -- Nick t 19:56, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Thats interesting. What action, by who and on what grounds? 4kinnel 19:59, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll be that's interesting. Harassment of established users will not be tolerated, as I said above, withdraw your comments on Tony's talk page or I'll report you to WP:ANI. -- Nick t 20:12, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm sure you don't mean to sound rude or intimidating so I shall assume good faith. You might want to re-read WP:U which states that "Wikipedia does not allow certain types of usernames, including... Usernames that promote a company [and]Unique trademarked names". If I have not followed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Username#How_to_report_an_inappropriate_username properly, please point out what I have misunderstood.4kinnel 20:14, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
The user is well known in the community having a sizeable number of edits and even having applied to become an administrator through our RFA process. At no point did any administrator, bureaucrat or steward raise any concerns with regards to Tony's username. This is due to the fact that Tony isn't using his username in a promotional manner and the fact that the name TonyTheTiger is seperate from the promotional mascot Tony The Tiger. We have thousands of users who have usernames related to film, television, literary and promotional characters, mascots and the like. The policy at WP:U may read as such, but past cases have show there's no chance of Tony being asked to change his username by the administrators here. -- Nick t 20:28, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
As you will see, we have resolved the matter. Now I know about these 'unwritten rules', I will not make this mistake again. 4kinnel 20:34, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
