The 43rd Grammy Awards were held on February 21, 2001. They recognized accomplishments by musicians from the previous year. Many were stunned by Steely Dan's win for Album of the Year for Two Against Nature beating out Eminem's controversial The Marshall Mathers LP. On that night over 200 protesters on behalf of GLAAD and other groups gathered outside the Staples Center to protest Eminem's album which they considered racist, homophobic and sexist.
