- October 29 — Valentinian III, Western Emperor, marries Licinia Eudoxia, daughter of his cousin Theodosius II, Eastern Emperor in Constantinople. This unifies the two branches of the House of Theodosius.
- The Roman general Aëtius attended to put an end to Burgundian raids in Augusta Vangionum and called in Hun mercenaries, which overwhelmed the city. This epic disaster provided the source for the Nibelungenlied.
