42 Isis (IPA: /ˈaɪsɨs/) is a large main belt asteroid. Isis was discovered by N. R. Pogson on May 23, 1856. It was his first asteroid discovery. It is named after Isis, the classical (Greek) name of an Egyptian goddess.
