The 41st United States Infantry Regiment was constituted on July 28, 1866.[1] The regiment was composed of African-Americans, and was commanded by Brevet Major General Ronald S. Mackenzie. The regiment had ten companies, and spent most of its time in Louisiana and Texas. On March 3, 1869, the 41st and the 38th regiments were consolidated as the 24th Infantry Regiment.

First Lieutenant George E. Albee was awarded the Medal of Honor on January 18, 1894 for his actions in Texas on October 28, 1869.
