The 36th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 36th Iowa Infantry was organized at Muscatine, Iowa and mustered in for three years of Federal service on October 4, 1862.

The regiment was mustered out on August 24, 1865.

[edit] Total strength and casualties

A total of 1335 men served in the 36th Iowa at one time or another during its existence.[1] It suffered 1 officer and 64 enlistedmen who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 6 officers and 232 enlistedmen who died of disease, for a total of 303 fatalities.[2]
