Talk:3200 Phaethon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Could this be an object launched from earth by a verneshot (recent theory concerning mass extinctions)? -David L. Battle

No. If Verneshots exist, they result in rocks with suborbital trajectories (i.e. the rocks are orbiting Earth and crashing bacxk again very soon afterward). Phaethon is not in orbit around the Earth, it's orbiting the Sun on its own independent path, millions of miles away from Earth. There's no way a volcano could fire a rock into that kind of orbit.
