[edit] Usage

This is the first round I've seen in a rifle of this size and shape. It looks more like a huge pistol bullet. Can any tell me what it's used for? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.231.245.50 (talk) 09:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Purely to demonstrate the versatility of their weapon that fires it. --Gabriel Millerd (talk) 12:07, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

  • There used to be usage information as this was a highly developed page with contributors who also posted information at www.50beowulf.com. The site owner of www.50beowulf.com (Lars) also contributed and encourged his members to add their expert knowledge in developing this Wikipedia page. Someone unaffiliated with www.50beowulf.com said there was copyright infringement based on postings at 50beowulf.com which resulted in the entire wikipedia page with all contributing work being deleted irrevocabaly without any attempt to check on the validity of the claim. The claim was not valid as the www.50beowulf.com site owner specifically allowed this information to be shared.
  • For your information, the .50 Beowulf round is used in many similar applications to other large bore carbine rounds. It is very ballistically similar to the .45-70 but in a much smaller length package. Pig hunting is a favorite topic among www.50beowulf.com forum members. Deer hunting is also a common topic. The lower velocity compared to other deer hunting rounds such as 30-06 make this round less of a danger at very long ranges while it has tremendous effect at 200 meters and less. For just about any hunter with typical hunting distances, this round is effective on any large game found in North America.Reginhild (talk) 21:47, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
