'Ene'io Botanical Garden

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ‘Ene’io Botanical Garden (EBG) is a botanical garden in Tonga and is the first of its kind there. It has the largest and most varied plant collection in the Kingdom of Tonga.

The botanical garden is in Vava'u, located just 10 minutes from Neiafu. It consists of 22 privately owned acres of garden.

‘Ene’io was developed in 1972 by Haniteli Fa’anunu. As an agronomist with 38 diverse years of agricultural experience (18 as the Director of Agriculture and Food within the Tongan government), Fa’anunu offers visitors a highly informative and personalized tour through the gardens containing over 100 plant families and 500 plant species, both native and exotic.

Guests are encouraged to discover, explore and learn at ‘Ene’io before enjoying lunch at the Garden’s Visitor Centre, or unwinding by the tranquil ocean at ‘Ene’io Beach. They can hire row boats, kayaks and snorkeling gear, or browse the souvenirs available in the EBG gift shop. The EBG gift shop carries a line of tradionionally produced Tongan body oils infused with the scents of native plants and flowers.
