Somebody has definitely done some homework regarding 2MAXFM. I must point out that the station was originally launched in 1993 with it's first test transmission. Since that time the station has been plagued by a minority of members attempting to take over it's control.

Test transmissions were subject to sabotage and younger announcers threatened with dismissal if they didn't do as they were told. Annual elections are subject to vote rigging and anyone trying to better the station are forced to leave by the committee using any means available.

Most of the committee suffer from the delusion that the station is "THEIRS" and God help anyone who says differently. The "clique" mentioned is as old as the station and although you have to be part of it to become a committee member it's just as easy to be parted from it if a few toes are trodden on.

The majority of community members refuse to listen to 2MAXFM due to the extremely poor presentations given by a large number of announcers. Most of them consist of "that was - this is" format with very little else designed to entertain the listener.

Sport coverage consists of a mere 2 hours per week whilst local news consists of an announcer reading articles from the local newspaper including the rustle of paper as the paged are turned. Unfortunately the reading is often carried out by someone with limited reading skills or personality.

Over the years the number of announcers being barred from the station far outnumber the actual active roll call. This doesn't include the announcers who decided to leave of their own accord, often due to threats and or poor treatment.

At the moment 2MAXFM lacks respect and support from the majority of Narrabri residents and things will stay that way until a fresh committee is elected who actually care about "OUR" radio station and not their own egos plus the realization that the people who actually keep the station on air are the announcers and listeners, not the committee.

The current investigation into 2MAX FM is aimed directly at showing community participation. One of the major problems with those who get upset with community radio stations is that they fail to understand the participation role of community radio.

It exists to give people underrepresented by other media a voice. Well, that is the goal. What happens in reality is the wasters who have the most amount of time to spend end up getting all the air-time. EG,unemployed and retirees, so therefore the increase in country music.

The people who whinge about it, then resign, amazed that this has no effect are truly quite silly. The way democratic system work is by convincing a large enough group to be involved, and vote at an AGM. Not hard, but seems to be out of the reach of most of the whingers.

Get a few more like minded individuals - the problem you probably have is that you actually don't have much support in the community, but the Narrabri clique have. Too bad - if you are unpopular as cholera in the community, the ones who are only as bad as the common cold win.
